WAYNESVILLE — One of the best ways to spend a Saturday or Sunday is with family and friends doing something you love, or eating something good. On the second weekend of October in Waynesville, you can accomplish both.

The 54th annual Sauerkraut Festival will be held from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12, and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 13. Forty specialty food booths and more than 400 juried arts and crafts booths will line the streets of downtown Waynesville, where all ages can participate in venting their creativity.

The Sauerkraut Festival is known across Ohio and the nation, drawing visitors and vendors from more than 25 states just to be a part of the weekend festivities. Sunshine Artist magazine ranked the festival as 29th on the list of 200 best craft shows in the United States.

Festival staples such as sauerkraut pizza, sauerkraut sundaes, and cabbage rolls from local businesses will make their regular appearances for returning visitors. Newcomers to the festival should check out the various sauerkraut related booths and figure out what suits their taste. Cookbooks will be sold at the information booth and contain some of the history and famous recipes of the festival.

Performances by the local high school and other bands will happen throughout the festival on the stages located on Central North and Main Street. Flat Wood Hollar Band, Street Wise Band, and Bobby D. Music are some of the participating musicians this year.

All proceeds of the festival go toward supporting the community, in particular, celebrating and encouraging young members of local schools to succeed and grow. Scholarships for graduating seniors of Waynesville High School will be awarded on Saturday morning as a part of the Sauerkraut Festival.

Memorabilia — including shirts, caps, and tote bags — with the official 2024 festival logo will be available for purchase. Parking for the festival is available at Waynesville High school, where a shuttle bus will take visitors to the entrance.
