City: Be mindful of tree and limb integrity

0

XENIA — The City of Xenia is still in the process of cleaning up from the storm damage that began Sept. 27.

On Wednesday, the city issued the following reminders:

— Be mindful of the signs of potential tree hazards, such as dead limbs, hollowed-out trunks, missing bark, fungus on the trunk, and areas where water can infiltrate and hollow out the tree at higher levels. While some of these signs may not warrant code enforcement action, they could indicate a need to consult a professional, ideally an arborist, to determine whether the tree requires treatment or removal.

— There may still be downed power lines, some of which could be entangled in trees on private property. If you encounter any downed power lines, consider them “hot,” cease any cleanup efforts, and immediately contact AES for assistance. Do not attempt to touch these power lines.

Xenia’s code enforcement division will be inspecting trees this week and next, and making recommendations to property owners with trees that pose a potential risk and how to mitigate them.
