Week 6 HS Football Recaps: Bellbrook shuts out Edgewood; Beavercreek, Carroll, Cedarville drop league games

HAMILTON — Bellbrook’s defense held down the oposition once again until its offense grabbed the win on Friday.

The Golden Eagles stuffed Edgewood 13-0 to begin SWBL Southwestern Division play with a road victory.

Despite heavy rainfall and winds maintaining its speed, Bellbrook and Edgewood paid tribute to the recent weather drought the area had experienced by maintaining zeros on the scoreboard in the first half.

Riley Ferrin connected on a pair of field goals to open the scoring until Vincent Epifano’s seven-yard touchdown run finally saw one side get to the end zone midway through the fourth quarter.

Bellbrook only allowed 122 total yards, 84 coming on three plays, and four first downs. It was the third time this season its defense did not allow a touchdown to be scored against it, and was the second shutout overall.

Bellbrook extended its winning streak to five straight this season, and 19 straight against division opponents.

Centerville 48, Beavercreek 13

The hard rain didn’t do Beavercreek any favors on Homecoming. Centerville scored 41 unanswered points in the second quarter to pull away and get the win.

Beavercreek fumbled three times, one of which was returned for a touchdown by the Elks. Jack Minnick helped Beavercreek keep the score close early with an 18-yard touchdown scamper before Centerville went on its run.

Beavercreek failed to reach at least 100 rushing yards for the first time this season.

Alter 43, Carroll 6

An opening safety gained by Alter set the tone for the rivalry game as Alter prevailed for the 18th time in the last 19 meetings.

The Patriots scored near halftime to make its deficit 14-6, but touchdowns on consecutive possession before and after the break for Alter helped give the Knights enough of a cushion that it extended until it reached a running clock in the fourth quarter.

The game was moved from its original Friday night slot to Saturday evening.

Madison Plains 28, Cedarville 14

Madison Plains scored a touchdown in each quarter and controlled the field position battle in a win over the Indians. Cedarville has now lost four straight games.

The game was moved from its original Friday night slot to Saturday morning.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Our top performer from Greene County for Week 5 of the season is Beavercreek senior Logan Johnston. He made four tackles and had a pass deflection against Miamisburg, and returned a 33-yard interception for a touchdown which turned into the winning score for the Beavers to snap its seven-plus year losing streak in GWOC play.
