Several local teams win conference cross country titles — Sports Digest: Oct. 14, 2024

XENIA — Greene County had several cross country champions during league meets run on Friday and Saturday in preparation for the upcoming district races.

Legacy Christian’s boys team won the MBC competition, and Caroline Hamilton was the individual girls winner. Hamilton ran a personal best time of 18:24 to win the race. The Knights’ boys side got top five finishes from Levi Thompson in third and Elam Sparks in fourth.

Beavercreek’s girls team finished in first at the GWOC meet. Macie Roberts had the best finish for Beavercreek with a second place run, and Elise Abraham got seventh. The boys team finished in second place with Jackson Davis getting second as an individual.

At the MVL meet, the Fairborn boys team and the Xenia girls team won the Valley Division titles. Fairborn had a 13th place run by D’artaynene Zimmerman to lead the team. Ahniyah Coombs ran 10th in the girls race for Xenia.

Both of Bellbrook’s boys and girls teams also won the SWBL Southwestern Division titles.

All local runners will be entered at the district meet races set to be held on Saturday at Cedarville University. D-III begins at 10 a.m., D-II at 11:30 a.m. and D-I runs start at 1 p.m.

Beavercreek completes unbeaten regular season

A 0-0 draw at Mason wasn’t the most exciting way to close out regular season play for the Beavers, but it helped secure an unbeaten record heading into the playoffs.

Beavercreek is 13-0-4 this season with the result. Beavercreek was ranked No. 5 in the MaxPrep Division I rankings, and Mason was No. 6.

Beavercreek has a week off before beginning D-I district play as the top seed. They host Wayne on Oct. 22.

Girls Tennis season ends

Beavercreek and Fairborn had its doubles tennis teams bow out at the Division I District Tournament held at Mason High School.

Beavercreek’s top team of Abby Hann and Reilly Franke defeated Fairborn’s Maddie Becker and Corena Schiely 6-3, 6-0, in the opening round before falling to a team from Sycamore in the quarterfinals.

Kaitlin Payton and Morgan Britton of Beavercreek knocked out the sectional champions from Butler in their opening match 7-5, 4-6, 6-3. The duo then lost to a team from Oak Hills in the quarterfinals.

Jaden Warner scored for the Golden Eagles in the loss.

Grant Driskell had 13 saves in goal.

Carroll 1, Alter 0

The Patriots won the GCL Co-ed outright with the win.

Derek O’Bleness had the only goal of the match.

Greeneview 1, West Liberty Salem 1

Cris Ajbal scored to earn the draw for the Rams.

Girls Soccer

Bellbrook 2, Lebanon 1

Mara Donnerberg and Georgia Earley both scored for the Golden Eagles.

Jordan Frantz had 11 saves.

Bethel 6, Legacy Christian 5

The second loss of the season for the Knights again came against a top 10 team in the D-IV state rankings.

LCA got two goals by Allie Graves, and others from Ava Combs, Claire Solomon and Anna Sweeney.

Volleyball

Beavercreek 3, Springfield 1

Rylee Paddock had 13 kills, 11 digs and nine blocks for Beavercreek.

Olivia Blackmore produced 11 kills, and Lily Miller got 22 digs in the win.

Cedarville 3, Southeastern 0

Mia Burr had 16 kills, and Ayden Rodgers and Aubrey Van Loo both got 14 digs for Cedarville.

Audrey Shepherd and Ellie Schulte also got double digit digs.

Greenon 3, Greeneview 1

Ally Truman had a double-double with 17 digs and 11 kills. Claire Tobe had 13 kills.

Greeneview finishes fourth in the OHC South.

Springfield 2, Greeneview 1

Ben Fischer made 14 saves in net for the Rams.

Luke Kennedy had the lone goal for Greeneview.

Carroll earned the draw with goals from Rachel Gervais and Lyla Oliver.

Bethel 6, Xenia 2

Paige Ferrence and KaKayli Marinelli scored goals for Xenia.

Lily Mackiewicz had 14 saves in net.

Volleyball

Cedarville 3, West Liberty Salem 0

Zoe McKinion had 21 assists for Cedarville in the close win.

The Indians placed second in the OHC South at 13-3.
