Beavercreek nearing unbeaten season; three girls tennis teams make districts — Sports Digest: Oct. 7, 2024

BEAVERCREEK — The boys soccer team at Beavercreek is closing in on an unbeaten regular season campaign.

The Beavers won a pair of 3-0 matches against Butler and Elder on Thursday and Saturday.

Beavercreek got two first half goals by Carson McGovern and Austin Brenner to start off Senior Night strong on Thursday and finish off the home schedule with a win. On Saturday at Elder, Beavercreek got multiple saves by Isaac Kolaczkowski and Connor Macek in support of their offense as Jonathan Guiliano and Josiah Rodriguez scored to propel the Beavers to a 12-0-3 record this season.

Beavercreek has its final GWOC contest at Springfield coming on Tuesday. A win guarantees at least a share of the conference title with Springboro, depending on its result Tuesday against Centerville.

Doubles teams heading to district tennis

Beavercreek and Fairborn are sending pairs to the Division I district girls tennis tournament.

Both Beavercreek teams entered into the Centerville Sectional advanced. Abby Hann and Reilly Franke were the third-seed, while Izza Cline and Natalie Rickabaugh upset the four-seed from Springboro in round of 16 match before beating a team from Miamisburg 6-1, 6-0, to move on.

The two sides faced one another in the third-place match on day two, with Hann and Franke winning without dropping a game.

Fairborn’s duo of Madison Becker and Corena Schiely advanced to the championship match at the Troy Sectional on Saturday. They were the second-seed at the tournament, losing in the title match to the top-seed from Butler 6-1, 7-6 (5).

The district tournament begins at 9 a.m. on Wednesday at Mason High School.

Hann and Franke will face Becker and Schiely in the first round. Cline and Rickabaugh drew the Butler team that won the Troy Sectional in its opening match.

No singles player from the area advanced out of sectional play. Getting into the quarterfinals and coming one match win short were Bellbrook’s Lola Brown at the Centerville Sectional for D-I, and Carroll’s Ally Walls and Greeneview’s Lauren Hoecke for D-II.

LCA secured a second place finish in the league with the win.

Wyatt Fagan made seven saves in net for Yellow Springs.

Girls Soccer

Legacy Christian 9, Yellow Springs 0

The Knights won a third consecutive Metro Buckeye Conference championship in shuting out the Bulldogs.

Allie Graves had a hat trick and Ava Combs assisted on three goals. Ella Norvell also scored twice for LCA.

Volleyball

Bellbrook 3, Alter 0

The Golden Eagles made short work of the Knights as Luci Mescher had 12 assists and 11 digs.

Sophie Davis led the team with 12 kills.

McNicholas 3, Carroll 0

A marathon second set did in Carroll falling 30-28.

Leah Casas produced 17 assists and Hayley Clary had three aces.

Madison Plains 3, Cedarville 0

The Indians lost 20, 15, and 20 in a battle for first place in the division.

Mia Burr had 14 kills and Ellie Schulte added 15 digs in the loss.

Southeastern 3, Greeneview 0

A 16 dig game by Kennadi Cummings highlighted the loss.

Emma Holm had a pair of aces and Ally Truman got eight kills.

Yellow Springs 3, Legacy Christian 0

The Bulldogs secured a second place finish in the MBC in sweeping the season series with the Knights.

Addison Shafeek had 10 digs and Ariana Robinson got 21 assists in the win.

Xenia 3, Stebbins 0

Xenia cruised in not allowing more than 20 points in any set.

Avery Tate had 11 kills and Isabella Gregg got 13 digs in the win.

Cross Country

Hamilton wins Mechanicsburg Invite

Legacy Christian’s Caroline Hamilton added another individual race win to her season. Hamilton ran a time of 18:28.

The boys side for the Knights also won the team title at the even. Levi Thompson ran third overall, Elam Sparks got fifth and Stephen Wojtowicz was seventh.

Shawn Seymour’s first half goal was enough in a battle of two of the state’s top ranked teams.

Gabe Memering got two saves to pick up his ninth shutout in net.

Alter 4, Yellow Springs 2

A two-goal game by Landon Harris wasn’t enough for the Bulldogs.

Wyatt Fagan had 23 saves to keep his team in the match.

Reese Brown, Becca Morse and Kelli Volmer all scored to help Beavercreek earn a hard fought tie at home.

Reese Miller and Kenley Minch assisted on the goals.

Abby Tokarz had 14 saves for the Patriots in the win.

Rachel Gervais scored the match’s lone goal.

Cincinnati Country Day 2, Greeneview 1

Consecutive losses for Greeneview saw its offense fail to score multiple goals in a game for the first time this season.

Keeley Anderson made four saves in net. Both losses for the Rams have come against top 10 state ranked teams in Division IV.

Legacy Christian 4, Botkins 1

Anna Sweeney had two goals for the Knights to improve to 13-1-1.

Claire Solomon assisted on two goals.
