Raiders unveil men’s HL schedule

FAIRBORN — The Horizon League on Wednesday announced its 2024-25 men’s basketball conference schedule.

First-year head coach Clint Sargent and the Raiders begin with an early December road trip to Michigan to take on Oakland and Detroit Mercy and close their league schedule March 1 at IU Indianapolis.

“Every season you understand how difficult and challenging your league schedule will be and this year will be no different,” Sargent said. “There are a number of great coaches with established cultures who expect to compete for a regular season title. We are looking forward to being in that conversation and can’t wait to get started.”

The Raiders also have a challenging non-conference schedule including a previously announced game at Kentucky in November.

“I am very pleased with how our non-conference schedule shaped up,” Sargent said. “It’s never an easy puzzle to put together but I think our staff did a great job of making decisions that will not only put our team in position to be tested and successful but added great opportunities for our fans to join us on that journey. Our Myrtle Beach event is the toughest tournament field we have had in my time here. We will face several teams that expect to win their league. Add in two marquee home games against Air Force and Marshall and that gives us two good opponents from two very good leagues. The remainder of our schedule will test us on the road and give us the competitive balance we need with your overall schedule.”

WSU also has a home December match up against Youngstown State before the close of the 2024 calendar year. The final 17 games of the regular season will begin just ahead of the new year and run through the final weekend of the regular season on March 1.

After the early December contests and the conclusion of non-conference games, the Raiders will jump back into the Horizon League schedule Dec. 29 with a trip to Cleveland State before ringing in the new year with back-to-back home contests against Green Bay (Jan. 2) and Oakland (Jan. 9). Wright State alternates home and road contests through the remainder of January, with visits to Robert Morris (Jan. 12), Northern Kentucky (Jan. 18), and Youngstown State (Jan. 30) to go along with home contests against Purdue Fort Wayne (Jan. 15) and back-to-back home games against Milwaukee (Jan. 22) and Detroit Mercy (Jan. 25).

February will begin at home for the Raiders, who welcome Robert Morris on Feb. 2 before a trip to Purdue Fort Wayne (Feb. 5) that will be followed up with a home contest against IU Indianapolis (Feb. 8). Wright State’s longest league road trip will come Valentine’s weekend in Wisconsin, taking on Milwaukee (Feb. 14) and Green Bay (Feb. 16) before returning home to host Northern Kentucky (Feb. 21) and Cleveland State (Feb. 27).

The opening rounds of the Horizon League Basketball Championships will once again start on campus with early round match-ups set for March 4 and 6. The semifinals and Horizon League championship game will take place March 10 and 11 at Indiana Farmers Coliseum in Indianapolis.

Wright State will prepare for the 2024-25 season with an Oct. 26 home exhibition game against Wilmington College, marking the first time the Raiders have hosted an exhibition contest since the 2018-19 season. The home non-conference match-ups include games against in-state opponents Ohio Christian (Nov. 6) and Central State (Nov. 16) in addition to the previously announced Air Force (Nov. 30) and Marshall (Dec. 11) games in the Nutter Center.

The Raiders’ road non-conference match-ups include trips to Miami University Nov. 9 and Toledo (Nov. 13) and a visit to face Eastern Michigan (Dec. 21) in addition to the season-opener at Kentucky (Nov. 4) and the Myrtle Beach Invitational (Nov. 21-24).
