YELLOW SPRINGS — Emily Barth, student at Yellow Springs high school, has been named a 2024 Commended National Merit Scholar.

According to the communications department at Yellow Springs Schools, Principle Jack Hatert made the announcement to the high school students, and the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) will give Hatert a letter to present to Barth.

Approximately 34,000 commended students are being recognized around the nation for their exceptional academic promise. Commended students will not continue in the competition for the National Merit Scholarship awards but placed in the top 50,000 of entries in 2024.

Students enter by taking the 2022 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

“Those being named commended students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success,” said a spokesperson for NMSC. “These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation. We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success.”
