Greene County News Report
XENIA — The Greene Metropolitan Housing Authority recently received a high ranking through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
According to a release from GMHA, it received a score of 94 out of 100 and received a “High Performer” designation, placing it among “a select number of housing authorities, out of approximately 3,200 nationwide, to achieve and maintain this prominent designation.”
The high performer designation is the highest honor that HUD gives to a housing authority.
“GMHA and its staff are committed to providing quality decent, safe, and affordable housing to Greene County residents,” said Brenda Smallwood, GMHA’s executive director. “Our staff works hard throughout the year to ensure that our properties are safe for individuals and families, and that they are an asset to the community. I am so proud of our staff and this HUD designation represents our commitment to fulfilling our mission and to the residents we serve.”
HUD requires that all housing authorities meet strict requirements and full compliance with regulations in the operations of their public housing programs. Annually, housing authorities undergo an assessment review, which yields each program’s score.
Housing authorities scoring 90 percent or higher receive the High Performer designation. GMHA’s designation means that it will be eligible to apply for certain grants and to receive a higher allocation of capital funds.
GMHA owns and maintains 361 housing units scattered throughout Greene County.
