BEAVERCREEK — Firearms were stolen from a Beavercreek gun shop early Sunday morning, city police have reported.

According to Beavercreek Police Captain Eric Grile, the break-in occurred at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday at Dayton Armory, which is located in the Beaver Valley Shopping Center off Seajay Drive.

Grile noted that surveillance video, which police did not release at the request of Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) investigators, showed the subjects who broke into the store to be “of juvenile’s size.”

“It appears that two black male juveniles exited [a SUV and a sedan], ran over to the front of the store, broke the glass, entered the store and were out very quickly with some property,” he said.

Grile reported that firearms were stolen in the break-in, but information about the type or the exact number of firearms taken was not immediately available.

“The quickest way around [a firearm background check] is exactly what these folks did, is they broke in and stole it,” Grile said. “They bypassed any background check or vetting information. The concern is that these weapons, especially if they were stolen by juveniles, will end up in the hands of criminals on the streets, that they probably will sell them and unfortunately they will probably be the cause of some future news stories.”

Anyone with information related to the incident is asked to call the Beavercreek Police Department at 937-426-1225.
