Sugarcreek man indicted on child rape charges

XENIA — A Sugarcreek Township man has been indicted on child rape charges. According to documents filed in Greene County Common Pleas Court April 28, Harold Stookey, 66, has been charged with four counts of raping a child under the age of 13, as well as two counts of gross sexual imposition.

Stookey was released on $100,000 bond last week and entered not guilty pleas to the six charges Friday.

According to Greene County Prosecuting Attorney Stephen Haller, once a report was made, a seven-year-old child was interviewed at Michael’s House, where the child disclosed the allegations.

“Then the police followed up on that and did a pretty thorough investigation including the issuance of a search warrant and the interviewing of witnesses, and they put this case together,” Haller said.

According to Haller, the charges result from “several incidents over a year’s period.”

A request for comment from Stookey’s attorney, Antony Abboud, was not returned by press time.

Stookey was sentenced to two years in prison for a gross sexual imposition charge and a contributing to unruliness charge in Warren County in 2001, according to online records.
