Greene County News report

SPRING VALLEY TWP. — Skeletal remains found Sunday afternoon in Spring Valley Township are female, Greene County Sheriff Gene Fisher confirmed Monday.

Mushroom hunters found the bones shortly before 4 p.m. in a wooded area off Elam Road in Spring Valley Township. They alerted police who began the investigation with Bureau of Criminal Investigations personnel and detectives.

“We still have BCI agents and detectives on the scene down there looking for evidence and missing bones,” Fisher said.

The Montgomery County Coroner and the Miami Valley Regional Crime Lab in Dayton are continuing their work, he added.

“They still have to determine a cause of death, if they can,” Fisher said.

It is being investigated as a homicide.

“You’ve got to investigate it that way,” he said. “This may be one of those kind that you just don’t know yet. A witness would be great right now.”

Fischer said there are no active or cold cases in the county, but he has been in contact with neighboring counties and agencies who may have some active missing person reports.
