Annual Easter egg hunt Saturday

XENIA — Don’t blink or you will miss one of the most exciting events in Xenia Saturday.

That’s when the Xenia Area Association of Churches and Ministries and the Xenia Board for Recreation, Arts and Cultural Activities hold their annual Easter Eggstravaganza in Shawnee Park. In a matter of seconds kids of all ages will scoop up thousands of eggs filled with candy and trinkets.

The chase starts 11 a.m. and won’t last long. More than 400 kids are expected in five age categories according to Sarah Mays, who organizes the event.

The age groups are pre-walkers, walkers up to 4-years-old, ages 5-8, 9-12 and special needs. Kids are encouraged to bring their own basket or bag to hold the eggs.

The Easter Bunny will be hopping around, ready to pose for pictures beginning around 10 a.m. and there will be the popular basket giveaway. Registration for baskets begins 10 a.m.

“It’s fun, it’s festive, it’s free,” Mays said.

Mays said there will be approximately 50 baskets raffled off, each containing a variety of items such as coloring books, baseballs and bats, stuffed animals and candy.

The baskets have been donated and designed by churches, local businesses and individuals.

“People really put effort into it,” Mays said. “They’re just fun. I just think they’re neat.”
