XENIA — One Hundred Women Making a Difference in Greene County presented a $10,000 check to Greene Memorial Foundation’s Circle of Victory Wednesday. Funds are intended to help local cancer patients with expenses that are not covered by insurance.

One Hundred Women Making a Difference in Greene County presents quarterly checks to local charities, giving away more than $200,000 since beginning in July 2010. The group hosts quarterly meetings in which three members present and answer questions about local charities presenters feel would be deserving of extra funding.

The Circle of Victory’s journey for receiving these funds started in July 2010 when One Hundred Women Making a Difference in Greene County Member Libby Hammond saw her mother battle cancer first-hand.

Hammond later found out about Circle of Victory and its mission, and proceeded to present it to One Hundred Women Making a Difference in Greene County. The first meeting Hammond presented, the group voted to present funds to another local charity. However, Hammond stayed hopeful that her opportunity to stand up for Circle of Victory would come once again.

Three other meetings passed before she was picked to present again. Just before the January 2016 meeting, Hammond said she prayed and experienced a sense of peacefulness afterword. She was one of the three individuals during that meeting who were given the opportunity to present to One Hundred Women Making a Difference in Greene County, resulting in the group voting to present the Circle of Victory funds during its January quarterly meeting.

“I’m so thrilled to be here,” Hammond said. “It’s such great work that you all do and you all help so many people with cancer who can’t afford to payments, the wigs, prosthesis [or other things].”
