XCS treasurer resigns

XENIA — Xenia Community School District Treasurer Tracy Jarvis is leaving her position when her contract expires July 31.

Jarvis, treasurer since the fall of 2013, gave notice after an executive session during February’s regular meeting.

“It’s just time to move on, do something different, something new,” Jarvis said Thursday. “I’m just looking for other opportunities. I haven’t really thought about it.”

Jarvis said she could also leave sooner if she provides two weeks’ notice.

“If I find the perfect job and I need to start earlier I need to be able to do that,” she said, adding that she told the board about her decision now so officials would have time to search for her replacement.

Superintendent Denny Morrison said there will not be an immediate rush to find a new treasurer.

“We do have time,” he said, while also commending Jarvis for her frugality where tax dollars are concerned.

“The time she was here our revenues exceeded our expenditures, good things happened in that regard,” Morrison said.

Jarvis was previously chief financial officer for Springboro Community Schools, Ross Local in Butler County and Princeton City Schools in Hamilton County, as well as president of Jarvis & Associates, which provides services to charter schools.

After 23 years in K-12 finance, she is unsure if her next career path will take her to another school system.

“I’ll apply for a school if I find one that I’m interested in,” she said.

A Greenville native and Oxford resident, Jarvis said she is particularly proud of helping the district save $1.2 million by refinancing bonds, helping negotiate a new three-year contract with employees and helping save 6 percent on health insurance.
