Fielding recognized as top administrator

XENIA — Christy Fielding never likes to brag about herself.

But the Xenia Community School District assistant superintendent of business operations has a big reason to toot her own horn now. She was named the Ohio School Boards Association Southwest Region outstanding administrator for 2016. The region consists of 17 counties, each with multiple school districts.

“I am honored to be receiving the Ohio School Boards Association (OSBA) Southwest Region outstanding administrator for 2016,” Fielding said. “My colleagues in the region are doing impressive things and to be chosen for this award means a lot to me. It was quite a surprise when I was informed I had been chosen.”

She was surprised, but nobody who works closely with Fielding was terribly shocked given what she has been able to accomplish.

In the last year, Fielding was in charge of projects that raised more than $700,000 in 28 days to pay for the new turf at the football stadium and that raised $60,000 for a new scoreboard. All teacher computers older than seven years have been replaced and the district purchased more than 2,700 Chromebooks to be used at all grade levels. She also implemented an energy project that saved more than $79,000 in energy charges and started a district-wide recycling program. Fielding has also been involved in negotiating two employee contracts and renewing two levies.

“Christy continues to work miracles for our school district,” said superintendent Denny Morrison, who was responsible for promoting Fielding to assistant superintendent. “When the district fell upon hard financial times and changes had to be made, Christy found a way to save money and save jobs. Due to her leadership, the transportation and maintenance departments became better organized, and to this day those departments are saving $1.4 million annually.”

Fielding just isn’t an employee of XCS either. She has a four-year-old son, Jake, enrolled in the award-winning Xenia Preschool and her husband, Tim, volunteers in the buildings.

“Xenia schools is a special place to me,” Fielding said.

Morrison said the district is lucky to have Fielding.

“Christy loves what she does and gives her best 100 percent of the time,” he said. “Everything she does is done the right way. She is a person of integrity. She prioritizes our needs and keeps things looking great ensuring the safety of students and staff. And as terrific an employee as she is for our district, she is even a better wife and mother. She is awesome.”

Fielding will be formally recognized at the Southwest Region spring conference March 8.

“I really appreciate those involved in nominating me for this award,” Fielding said. “It truly is special to me they care enough to have taken their time to write such kind words and honor the great things we have done together.”
