Fire destroys apartments

BEAVERCREEK — One apartment unit was destroyed and three others were damaged after a fire Sunday afternoon.

Beavercreek Township Fire Department crews were called to the Wexford on the Green apartment complex in the 2900 block of Old Troon Drive shortly before 2 p.m.

Four units sustained damage, two due to fire and two due to water, according to Deputy Chief Scott Dorsten. The remaining eight units in building had to be evacuated because utilities were shut off.

Dorsten said the fire appeared to start on the deck of the apartment but the exact cause is still under investigation.

“We haven’t been able to determine anything at this point,” he said.

It took crews about an hour to get the fire under control, with the help of mutual aid from Fairborn, Riverside and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.

None of the residents were able to return to their apartments and Dorsten said it may be a few days while Dayton Power and Light and Vectren crews assess the damage.

Displaced families stayed in a hotel Sunday night, according to Dorsten, and are “working through their own measures” to find places to stay until it’s safe to go back.
