XENIA — The City of Xenia will host a second night out Monday, Sept. 28.

“Neighborhood Night Out 2.0” will take place 4-6 p.m. in Franklin Park, west of Cox Elementary School in the Laynewood Neighborhood.

“Our first neighborhood night out program in Xenia’s East End neighborhood received a lot of positive attention and was widely appreciated by residents of the area,” said Xenia City Manager Brent Merriman. “Due to its success, our management team met and decided that we would offer another program this calendar year in an effort to further engage residents and encourage inclusion and collaboration throughout the city” he added.

As with the first event, “Neighborhood Night Out 2.0” will showcase city-owned vehicles, including police cars and firetrucks, for youngsters to enjoy as city personnel serve hot dogs and snacks. In addition, the city also plans to have boune houses, music and other city personnel representing police, fire, maintenance and human relations divisions. Those representatives will be on hand to explain their specific city duties while hopefully spawning interest in City careers.

Sponsors include Kroger of Xenia, Narrow Path Plumbing and Greene Memorial Hospital.

“We see the value in what the City of Xenia is doing to further engage and foster communication and participation between local government and city residents,” said Jeff Brock, president of Greene Medical Foundation. “Greene Memorial also strives to accomplish similar goals by encouraging residents of the Xenia area to be engaged in their community while pursuing healthy lifestyles, and we see this program as a great way to reach out to our community as well. We want to be part of the team.”
