FAIRBORN (WDTN) — Police were called to a University Shoppes Sunday afternoon after someone reported that a child was left alone in a van.

According to officials, a one-year-old girl was left inside a van within the shopping center, located on the 2600 block of Colonel Glenn Highway, with the windows rolled up. People who were eating inside First Watch heard a screaming baby, saw the child and called police. The temperatures were in the 80s.

Bystanders were able to get the baby out of the vehicle before officers arrived. Police said the little girl was sweating, but not hurt. Officials said the parents were inside the Elite Smoke Shop and Gifts and forgot about the child. Witnesses said the baby was inside the van for about 20 minutes.

The parents will be cited for child endangering. Children’s Services were notified.
