Suspected meth lab busted

XENIA — Two people were arrested Wednesday afternoon after Xenia Police and the Greene County Agencies for Combined Enforcement Task Force (ACE) discovered a possible meth lab in a Drake Drive home.

Police and Greene County Children’s Services were originally called to the home in the 2000 block when the property owner — who was serving an eviction notice to the residents — had concerns about the welfare of a child in the home, according to Capt. Scott Anger.

“We were also told told there was possibly some drug activity going on at the residence,” Anger said.

When police arrived, they saw a male suspect trying to exit the back of the home, Anger said.

“He did have materials and chemicals in his possession that are known to be for meth labs,” Anger said.

Arrested were Matthew L. Dakin, 40, and Shannon Gunckel, 33. Police say both were charged with illegal assembly or possession of chemicals for the manufacture of meth, illegal manufacture of drugs, and endangering children, all felonies.

The same home was raided in July when police suspected a meth lab, Anger said.

Both suspects were taken to Greene County Jail with a bond of $35,000 each, according to a release from the police.
