Bucs rally past Springboro

XENIA — After trailing 4-0 in the first inning of play, Xenia rallied past Springboro for a 10-8 win Tuesday. Coach Joe Turner credited freshman Bailey Oliver with a solid pitching game, and said Lexi Gibson, Kait Wormsley and Kerstin Norris hit the ball hard in the win. The Bucs defense was strong as well, with Sage Turner recording an unassisted double play.

Xenia is now 6-7 overall, 2-4 in the Greater Western Ohio Conference South Division. They play at Springfield at 5 p.m. tonight, then play at Vandalia Butler on Friday.

Rams upend Cedarville

After seven lead changes, the Greeneview Rams outlasted Cedarville for a 9-4 win.

Greeneview managed to grab the lead for good after a strong sixth inning. The Rams went up for good on an RBI single by Brooke Eakle, which brought home Allison Simpson.

Simpson had two extra-base hits and four hits in all for Greeneview. She doubled in the second and sixth innings and singled in the fourth and seventh innings.

Cedarville couldn’t get anything going as long as Brianna Seigfried was on the Greeneview mound. Seigfried gave up three Indians hits, fanned one and allowed no earned runs in five innings of work.

Bryce Ratliff and Simpson teamed up for nine hits and six RBIs.

BASEBALL

Cedarville hangs on for 1-0 win

CEDARVILLE — Jacob Gannon tossed a complete-game, seven-strikeout shutout, and Mason Cross drove in the only score of the game in Cedarville’s 1-0 win over Greeneview on Tuesday.

Panthers sweep Xenia

XENIA — Visiting first-place Springboro completed a home-and-home sweep of Xenia on Tuesday with a 9-2 win. The loss drops the Buccaneers’ record to 6-7 overall, 2-4 in the Greater Western Ohio Conference, South Division.

Xenia next plays at Dayton Chaminade Julienne for a nonleague game at 5 pm. Thursday. Springboro is now 6-0 in the GWOC South and they’re 13-1 overall.

TRACK & FIELD

Greeneview great at Waynesville meet

WAYNESVILLE — Greeneview’s girls track & field team won the Waynesville Invitational, and the Ram boys contingent finished eighth in their meet.

The girls scored 85 points to win the 12-team meet by three points over Yellow Springs, securing the victory with an exciting runner-up finish in the final event, the 1,600-meter relay (Alex Hansen, Jessica Folino, Hannah Ferrell, Ocean Morris).

Kristen Combs led the Rams scoring, by winning the long jump, taking second in the 300 hurdles, fourth in the 200 dash, and tying for second with teammate Alex Hansen in the high jump.

Ocean Morris won 400 dash gold, her third straight win in that event, and took second in the 200 dash. She also anchored the meet-clinching mile relay and the third-place 800 relay.

Jessica Folino took second in the 100 hurdles and was third in the 300 hurdles.

The 800 relay team of Folino, Hansen, Belle Hartman and Morris took third.

The boys scored 30 points to finish eighth in the 12-team boys meet. The 1,600 relay team of Rich Howard, Alex Brown, Collin Matt and Daniel Sage led from start to finish, taking first place gold in the meet’s final event. Sage also took second in the 400 dash and was fourth in the 200.

BOYS TENNIS

Xenia nips West Carrollton

WEST CARROLLTON — Connor Sell claimed a win at second singles, and the doubles teams of Chris Brodsky-Michael Graham and Spencer Titus-Dorien Morris each claimed straight-set wins to earn the visiting Xenia Buccaneers a 3-2 win on Friday.

Wenzler named HL Golfer of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS — Wright State junior Ryan Wenzler has been selected as the Horizon League Golfer of the Week for the week ending April 17, it was announced Tuesday by the league office.

Wenzler (Centerville) earned medalist honors at a tournament for the second time this year as he won the Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational on Saturday, finishing with a three-round score of 214.

After shooting a 69 in the opening round on Friday, Wenzler carded a 72 in the second round later that day to be in a tie for second at 141, one shot off the lead.

On Saturday, Wenzler shot a 73 to win the tournament by one shot over three other players.

It was the second tournament title for Wenzler this year as he also won the NKU Collegiate Classic on September 28. He currently leads the team with a 73.15 round average.

Wright State competes this weekend at the Horizon League Championships in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla., with the tournament starting on Friday.
