Boys Basketball

Beavercreek wins at Troy

TROY — Jon Alessandro scored a team-high 27 points, Jackson Back scored 11, Jackson Hansen tossed in 10 points, Cedric Baldwin scored nine while Drew Prater and Adam Graeter scored four each, in Beavercreek’s 65-61 win, Tuesday, over Troy.

The Beavers are now 3-11 overall. They play at Kettering Fairmont for a 7:30 p.m. Friday game.

Patriots win big over West Carrollton

RIVERSIDE — Host Carroll charged out to a 31-14 halftime lead and then let its bench take over the rest of the way, in Tuesday’s 70-39 win over West Carrollton. D.J. Sommers led Carroll with 18 points, Stafford Stevens scored 11, Joe Cogan added 10, Beau Austin scored nine points and Jared Kieninger scored eight in the win.

The Patriots are now 9-6 overall and 2-3 in the Greater Catholic League Co-ed North Division. They will host Hamilton Badin at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Northeastern nips Greeneview

SPRINGFIELD — Host Springfield Northeastern outscored Greeneview 14-2 in the fourth and final period to claim a 48-38 win, Tuesday night.

Ethan Bradds led Greeneview (4-9, 3-5 Ohio Heritage Conference) with 12 points and Austin Petry finished with 10.

The Rams will host Springfield Catholic Central at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 22.

Pumroy scores 1,000th point

CENTERVILLE — Senior guard Jordan Pumroy was recognized by Centerville and Fairborn basketball fans alike, as he scored his 1,000th career point in Tuesday’s 62-49 loss at Centerville High. Pumroy scored a team-high 22 points and Ryan Profitt finished with 10 for the Skyhawks (7-7). Centerville is now 8-6 overall.

Fairborn plays at Xenia, in a battle for second place in the Greater Western Ohio Conference’s South Division, at 7:30 p.m Friday.

Ambassadors lose on the road

TROY — Xenia Christian fell behind 22-6 in the opening quarter and could not dig itself out of the hole, Tuesday night in a 67-49 loss. No individual statistics were provided to the Metro Buckeye Conference website.

Xenia Christian (0-13, 0-6 MBC) will host Yellow Springs at 7 p.m. Friday.

Knights lose to Kenton Ridge

SPRINGFIELD — Host Kenton Ridge broke open a close six-point game at halftime, with a 26-13 third-quarter run. No individual statistics were available on the Central Buckeye Conference website.

Greenon (2-12, 1-5 CBC Mad River Division) plays at Bellefontaine Benjamin Logan at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Xenia Christian claims win over Newton

XENIA — The host Ambassadors trailed Pleasant Hill Newton by a score of 30-26 at halftime of Tuesday night’s game, but Xenia Christian outscored the Indians 35-25 in the second half to claim a 61-55 win. No individual stats were available on the Metro Buckeye Conference website.

Xenia Christian (13-3, 4-2 MBC) plays host to Yellow Springs at 7 p.m. Thursday.

SIAC renews deal with Jostens

ATLANTA – The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) and Jostens, the leading national custom jewelry designer and producer, have renewed their partnership and named Jostens the official championship jeweler of the league announced on Wednesday.

The three-year deal will allow all SIAC member institutions — which would include Central State University, in Wilberforce — to work exclusively with Jostens in the creation and customization of championship rings.

The partnership also includes activation opportunities with conference championship events, SIAC digital and social media platforms, and website integration supporting the Jostens brand through the conference.

Reds Caravan set for Jan. 28-30

CINCINNATI — The 2016 Cincinnati Reds Caravan kicks off Thursday, Jan. 28 from the Reds Hall of Fame & Museum and will travel more than 3,300 miles with stops in five states over three days.

The Caravan is presented by the Cincinnati USA Regional Tourism Network.

The four Caravan tours travel through Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, West Virginia and Tennessee providing fans with the opportunity to interact with current and former players, top minor leaguers, broadcasters and members of the Reds front office staff. At each of the 16 fan stops, the groups will field questions and sign autographs while time allows.

All Caravan fan stops are free and open to the public, and at each fan stop listed below the Reds will raffle two tickets to the 2016 Opening Day game on Monday, April 4 (4:10 pm) vs. the Philadelphia Phillies.

The North Tour includes broadcasters Thom Brennaman and Jim Day, pitcher J. J. Hoover (Thurs. & Fri. only), catcher Devin Mesoraco (Sat. only), minor league pitcher Cody Reed, former Reds catcher and Dayton Dragons catching coach Corky Miller, President of Baseball Operations Walt Jocketty, Chief Operating Officer Phil Castellini and mascot Mr. Redlegs.

North Tour Fan Stops (Time EST)

Thursday, Jan. 28 Columbus (Polaris Fashion Place) 6:30 to 9 p.m.

Friday, Jan. 29 Lima (Univ. of Northwestern Ohio Event Center – new location) 5 to 8:30 p.m.

Saturday, Jan. 30 Dayton (National Museum of the U.S. Air Force) 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Saturday, Jan. 30 Hamilton (Parrish Auditorium at Miami-Hamilton Univ.) 3 to 6 p.m.

The Reds Caravan will also visit over 20 of the Reds on Radio affiliates throughout Reds Country during the tours.

Additional Caravan participants may be added to select tours. Times are subject to change.

Reds sales representatives will be at each stop to answer ticketing questions and discuss 2016 ticket plans, while the Reds Hall of Fame, the Reds Community Fund and Cincinnati USA Regional Tourism Network will attend select stops.

Memberships to the Reds Heads Kids Club, Reds Rookies Baby Club, Club Red and Reds Hall of Fame & Museum will be for sale at select stops.

Seating is limited at all Caravan stops. Autographs will be available on a first-come, first-served basis while time allows. No posed photographs. There may be restrictions on items celebrities can sign.

Arnold 5K run set for March 6th

The 16th annual Arnold 5K will be held on Sunday, March 6 in downtown Columbus. The race is part of the Arnold Sports Festival Weekend. All entrants receive an Arnold 5K race t-shirt and a free entry ($20 value) to the 27th annual Arnold Sports Festival after the race, plus the top 500 finishers receive Arnold 5K medals.

Fairborn girls softball taking registrations

FAIRBORN — The Fairborn Girls Softball Association is now accepting registrations for its fastpitch (girls 10U to 18U) and slowpitch (girls 5-20) leagues. Girls from all communities are welcome!

Registration fee is $60 by Jan. 31 ($70 starting March 1), with a $10 discount for additional family members.

In-person registration will take place Jan. 16 (10 a.m.-noon), Jan. 31 (1-3 p.m.), Feb. 6 (10 a.m.-noon) and Feb. 21 (1-3 p.m.) at The Inside Scoop, located at 313 W. Main St. in Fairborn.
