The 2015-‘16 boys high school basketball season gets under way starting tonight with three games involving four teams from the Greene County area.
The night’s marquee matchup pits two Division I programs from Greene County — Beavercreek is in the Blue Pit against the host Xenia Buccaneers for a 7:30 p.m. contest between Greater Western Ohio Conference-member teams. Beavercreek is in the GWOC Central Division; Xenia is in the GWOC’s South Division.
Tonight’s other boys basketball openers have Cedarville, out of the Ohio Heritage Conference, on the road at Springfield Emmanuel Christian, and the Central Buckeye Conference’s Greenon (which is just outside of Greene County, hence the “area” reference earlier) playing at South Charleston Southeastern. Both of those contests are non-league events with scheduled 7:30 p.m. tip-offs.
Three more area schools get their seasons going on Saturday.
Carroll, a Greater Catholic League, Co-Ed Division contender (also technically outside of Greene County, but close), will host Dayton Belmont at 7:30 p.m. Saturday; Cedarville plays its second game of the season on the road for Xenia Christian’s home opener, also a 7:30 p.m. start; and another OHC school, Greeneview, opens play on the road at Springfield Northwestern, another 7:30 p.m. start.
Xenia Christian, from the Metro Buckeye Conference, plays its second game of the season (at Carlisle) on Tuesday night. They’ll join three other Greene County-area teams who will be making their season debuts.
Fairborn (GWOC S0uth) and Bellbrook, out of the Southwestern Buckeye League’s Southwestern Division, begin the season in a 7:30 p.m. non-league tussle at Bellbrook, and Yellow Springs (also of the MBC) starts the season off with a 7:30 p.m. matchup on the road against Springfield Catholic Central.
