Fourteen area high school soccer players and four coaches recently received all-district recognition by the Miami Valley Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association. Of that group, one player was named her division’s Player of the Year, and two coaches were named Coach of the Year.

Carroll’s junior midfielder Abby McNamara was named the Division II player of the year by the MVSSCA. The Patriots co-captain led the Greater Catholic League Co-Ed Division in goals scored (20), assists (tied with teammates Mia Raiff and Niki Birr with eight apiece), led the GCL Co-ed with 48 points (two points for a goal, one for an assist), and was second in the GCLC in shots on goal with 46. She was also named the GCLC’s Player of the Year.

McNamara’s coach, GCLC Coach of the Year Sarah Flach, received Private Coach of the Year accolades in Division II after leading Carroll to a 16-5-1 overall record, and first place in the GCLC North at 5-1. Flach and the Patriots, ranked 10th in Ohio, reached the DII regional finals before losing to second-ranked Cincinnati Indian Hill, 2-1.

Also in Division II, Bellbrook’s Sarah Trochelman was named Assistant Coach of the Year.

Bellbrook Boys coach Kevin Terrell was named DII Coach of the Year, and Carroll’s Darryl Jones was named DII’s Assistant Coach of the Year.

Eight boys and six girls were named to their respective All-District teams.

Beavercreek senior defender Mike Chuck and Xenia senior midfielder Zach Brunsman both were named to the Division I Boys all-district team.

In Boys Division II, Bellbrook junior defender Shane Niemeier, Carroll senior midfielder Ian Molfenter, and Greenon senior midfielder Jordan Bardnell each were named to the first team.

Two Greeneview Rams — senior midfielder Jacob Mickle and senior forward Jaden Baise — along with Yellow Springs’ speedy forward Joe Plumer, were selected for first team all-district honors in Boys Division III.

Beavercreek senior forward Sierra Peacock was the only Greene County-area Division I first team pick this season.

McNamara joined Bellbrook senior forward Kelsey Schoenung and Greenon senior forward Darwin Patterson on the DII all-district first team.

In girls Division III, Greeneview senior forward Emily Rinehart and Xenia Christian senior midfielder Katie Riddle were named to the all-district first team.

The MVSSCA also selected players to several area teams within the district. A total of 43 boys and 34 girls from the Greene County area were named to their respective division’s district all-area teams.

Among the coaching ranks, Carroll’s Jones (Assistant COY) and Bellbrook’s Terrell (COY) received similar recognition on the Division II South squad.

Greeneview varsity boys coach Bob Eakins was named the DIII East’s Coach of the Year.

On the girls soccer side, Flach was also the DII South Coach of the Year, while Greenon’s Katie Miller (DII North) and Bellbrook’s Trachelman (DII South) each received area Assistant Coach of the Year awards.
