HIGH SCHOOL

Doug Adams Stadium hosting regional final game

XENIA — Saturday’s Division IV regional final game, between top-seeded Middletown Fenwick (12-0) and third-seed Clarksville Clinton-Massie (11-1), will kickoff at 7 p.m. at Xenia’s Doug Adams Stadium.

Gates will open at 5:30 p.m.

Raiders lose to N. Illinois

DEKALB, Ill. — The Wright State men’s basketball team led by eight at the half, but was held to 20 points in the second half as Northern Illinois scored the final six points for a 65-59 decision Sunday at the NIU Showcase.

After shooting 54 percent in the first half, WSU cooled to 27 percent over the final 20 minutes to finish at 42 percent overall while NIU shot 48 percent in the second half to end up at 46 percent. Northern Illinois also made 20 of 32 foul shots, 11 of 17 in the second half, to just seven of nine for the Raiders.

J.T. Yoho led Wright State with 16 points while Joe Thomasson added 15 along with seven rebounds. Grant Benzinger chipped in nine points and Mark Alstork added seven.

Wright State (1-2) wraps up its season-opening four-game road swing at 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20, as the Raiders face the nationally-ranked Kentucky Wildcats at Rupp Arena in Lexington, Ky.

Second-half rally tops Central State

WEST CHESTER, Pa. — The Central State women’s basketball team was outscored 52-34 in the second half as 25th ranked West Chester University went on to win 80-67 on Sunday afternoon.

Jordyn Bond finished with 22 points and eight rebounds to lead the Lady Marauders. Ghameerah McCullers finished with 14 points.

Improving to 1-1, the Rams had five players finish in double figures with Dallas Ely leading the way with 18 points to go along with nine rebounds.

CSU lost its season opener to Gannon University, 76-57, Friday at West Chester.

Central State (0-2) will travel to Frankfort, Ky. on Friday to play Kentucky Wesleyan as part of the CY Russell Classic. Hosted by Kentucky State, Friday’s game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. tip-off in the Exum Center.

Marauder men fall in opener

CHICAGO — Opening the season at the HBCU Windy City Hardwood Classic on Saturday, the Central State Marauders men’s basketball team struggled to find their shooting stroke in a 64-47 loss to the Hornets of Harris-Stowe.

Jeremy Brown and Tre’ Edwards led the scoring for the Marauders with 12 points each. Despite the loss, Brown filled the stat sheet with 11 rebounds, four assists and two steals. Sterling Gilmore finished with 10 points. Hosie Smith Jr (5), Robert Konteh (4) and Tom Johnson (2) were the only other players to score for CSU, which fell to 0-1.

CSU returns to action Nov. 24 when they’ll play Saginaw Valley State University, at 7 p.m. in University Center, Mich. the team’s next home game is set for Dec. 3 against Benedict College.

Rowland wins at Hiram

HIRAM — Haley Rowland, a Xenia Christian graduate and Fairborn resident, won the women’s 400-meter freestyle race in 5:27.93, during Saturday’s dual swim meet between Wilmington College and host Hiram College. Rowland is a junior on the Wilmington Quakers team. Wilmington turned in 11 of the 16 fastest times in the meet to win, 140-105.

The Quakers swim team will next compete in the Ohio Wesleyan Invitational, Saturday and Sunday in Delaware, Ohio.

Miles College wins SIAC title

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Miles College earned its second conference title when it defeated Albany State 20-7 in the 2015 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) football championship game, Saturday evening at the Cramton Bowl.

Miles’ game MVP Jamarcus Nance finished with 144 yards on 32 carries. Quarterback David Whipple, another first team SIAC honoree connected on 10-of-19 passes and tallied 153 yards. Anthony Hardy led the Golden Bears’ defense with 10 tackles.

SIAC Offensive Player of the Year Jarvis Small finished with 105 yards on 22 carries. Caleb Edmonds was 21-for-42 with one interception and recorded 218 yards.

Tavarius Washington was named the game MVP for Albany State and finished with a game-high 14 tackles.

Miles will close out the regular season when it faces Alabama State on Saturday, Nov. 21 in Montgomery, Ala.
