Miller, Linsenbigler named honorary coaches

XENIA — Xenia City Schools staff members Paula Linsenbigler and Mary Miller have been named the Xenia High football team’s honorary coaches for Friday’s home game against Beavercreek.Miller teaches English and Public Speaking as Chairman of the English Department at Xenia High School. She is a 1996 graduate of XHS and a 2000 graduate of Miami University. Mary is married to John following his dramatic proposal 13 years ago at a XHS pep rally! They have three children – Will, JJ, and Madie. They are members of the First Church of Christ.

Mrs. Miller was awarded the Howard Post Award for Excellence in Education from the 2014-2015 Graduates of Distinction. She has served as advisor to the National Honor Society as well as the Student Council. The senior football players chose Mrs. Miller as honorary coach because of her commitment to Xenia, her commitment to the students of Xenia, and her commitment to excellence. Congratulations Mrs. Miller for being this week’s Honorary Football Coach.

Linsenbigler and her husband, Cal, have a daughter, Adyson, and a dog, Lucky. Linsenbigler teaches fifth grade at Shawnee Elementary and is in her 15th year there. This year, she will be representing her church by leading the “Kids Hope” program with Shawnee Elementary.

The senior football players chose Linsenbigler as Honorary Coach because of the impact she had on them during their days at Shawnee, her commitment to the youth of Xenia, and her commitment to excellence.

This year at each home game, the Bucs will honor two XCS staff members (one high school and one elementary/middle school) as honorary coaches.

Xenia-Beavercreek battle WDTN’s Game of the Week

DAYTON — WDTN-TV, channel 2 in Dayton has named Friday’s Beavercreek at Xenia high school football game it’s Operation Football Game of the Week. Living Dayton’s Katie Kenney and 2 Sports’ Hutch Konerman will be broadcasting live at 5 p.m. from Doug Adams Stadium in Xenia.

Arby’s, WDTN and Dayton’s CW will have free goodies and food samples at the game, and fans can catch the game’s highlights on 2 News, at 11:15 p.m. Friday night.

Football tryouts Sept. 19

XENIA — The Xenia Tornadoes Semi Professional football team will be holding a tryout for the 2016 season from noon – 5 p.m., Sept. 19 at Spring Hill Park, on Lake Street, in Xenia. Registration begins at noon. Tryouts get under way at 1 p.m. Please bring a valid ID to verify age, bring cleats if you have them, shorts and water. Registration ends at 3 p.m.

Central State hosting track tryouts

WILBERFORCE — As the 2015-2016 school year approaches, the CSU track & field program is excited to start training for the upcoming season. Upon doing so, the coaches would like to reach out to the student body and invite students who are interested in joining the CSU men’s and women’s cross country and track & field teams to this year’s tryout date.

An interest meeting will be held beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 26 in the Beacom/Lewis Gymnasium. The interest meeting is mandatory in order to tryout.

Official tryouts will be held on Monday, Aug. 31.

CSU Hall Inductees announced for 2015

WILBERFORCE – Central State Athletic Director Jahan Culbreath has announced the department’s Hall of Fame committee’s 2015 inductees. Joining the CSU Hall of Fame this year will be Thelanious “Laney” Prioleau, Dr. Arthur E. Thomas, and the 1990 Central State football team.

In addition to this year’s inductees, Central State’s undefeated 1965 men’s basketball team will be in attendance to celebrate their 50th anniversary. The ‘65 team won the school’s first NAIA national basketball title with a flawless 30-0 record.

The 2015 Hall of Fame Luncheon will be held at the Country Club of the North at 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 9, in Beavercreek. Tickets to the induction ceremony are available for $35 each and can be purchased online or by calling the CSU Athletic Office at (937) 376-6289. All those planning to attend must RSVP prior to the event and purchase their ticket(s) on or before Monday, Aug. 31.

Yoga in the Outfield set for today

DAYTON –“Yoga in the Outfield” has been rescheduled for 6-9 p.m., Tuesday, August 25 at Fifth Third Field. The event was postponed due to the threat of severe weather last week. Participants will take part in a one-hour yoga class on the field with Ignite Yoga founder Justina Sanford.

There will be a social event on the First Base Concourse, Milano’s Tap Room, and Fifth Third Cafe following the session. Food and beverage, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, will be available for purchase.

Admission to “Yoga in the Outfield” is $8 and includes a Lawn Ticket to a Dayton Dragons game at 7 p.m. on Aug. 27 when the Dragons take on the Bowling Green Hot Rods.
