WSU Baseball holds off Gardner-Webb

FAIRBORN — For the second straight day, the Wright State baseball team saw Gardner-Webb rally from an 8-2 deficit, but, this time, the Raiders would prevail for an 8-6 victory March 1 at John H. Moss Stadium.

The Bulldogs held a 1-0 lead until WSU went in front with two in the fourth. With one out, singles by Seth Gray, Alex Alders and Gabe Snyder loaded the bases for Adrian Marquez, who drove in Gray and Alders with a hit through the right side of the infield.

Wright State picked up an unearned run in the fifth and after the Bulldogs made it 3-2 with a run of their own in the bottom of the fifth, the Raiders broke the game open with four in the seventh, including another two-run single by Marquez.

WSU went up 8-2 in the ninth with another unearned run, only to see Gardner-Webb rally with four in the bottom of the frame, with all four runs coming with two out.

Mitch Gremling, though, induced a ground out to wrap up the game and pick up his first career save. Trevor Swaney (1-0) earned the win while Jeremy Randolph pitched 3.1 scoreless inning in relief, allowing just two hits.

JD Orr, Gray, Alders and Marquez each had two hits for the Raiders while Gray scored three times and Zach Weatherford and Alders twice each.
