Bellbrook seeks JV tennis coach

BELLBROOK — Bellbrook High School is looking for a Junior Varsity Tennis Coach for the upcoming 2017 season.

Qualifications: Team Player, good communication skills, positive attitude and outlook, knowledge of the game of tennis, ability to lead and foster a positive environment for student-athletes, and flexible schedule.

Buccaneers roll over Pirates

WEST CARROLLTON — Five Xenia Buccaneers boys basketball players finished in double-figure scoring, led by Samari Curtis’ 39-point effort, in a Tuesday, Feb. 14 104-67 win over Greater Western Ohio Conference, American South division foe West Carrollton. Curtis also had seven assists and seven rebounds.

Other Xenia players scoring in doubles were: Kobe Hughlett (14 points, nine rebounds); Teandre’ Adams (12 points) and Meechi Harris (12 points, seven rebounds); and Brandon Love (11 points). Xenia (14-7, 8-5 GWOC American South) closes out its regular season Friday, Feb. 17 with a 7:30 p.m. home game against county and division rival Fairborn.

Fairborn rolls over West Carrollton

FAIRBORN — J.T. Cherpeski rolled a team-best 461 two-game series, James Lewis III tossed a 403, and the Fairborn Skyhawks boys varsity bowling team claimed a 2,207 to 1,898 over West Carrollton on Tuesday, Feb. 14. Ryan Karr rolled a 378 series, Montanna Robinson rolled a 354, and Skyhawk teammates Stephen Spahr and Jacob Hart rolled respective games of 162 and 160 in the win. Fairborn is now 7-9 overall, 6-8 in the Greater Western Ohio Conference’s American South division.

Both teams will be involved in the GWOC Postseason tournament, set for 9 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18 at Beaver-Vu Bowl in Beavercreek.

Skyhawks win GWOC South

FAIRBORN — The Fairborn girls varsity bowling team claimed a 2,197 to 1,778 win over West Carrollton on Tuesday, Feb. 14 to clinch the Greater Western Ohio Conference American South division regular season title. Hannah Borchert and Audrey Renner led the way with 451 and 421 two-game series respectively. Other two-game scores for the Skyhawks were rolled by Alyssa Lewis (362), Shyann Predmore (318) and Callie Shimek (317). Fairborn is now 15-2 overall and won the division with a 12-2 mark. Fairborn and West Carrollton will next compete in the GWOC postseason tournament, which is scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday Feb. 18 at Beavercreek’s Beaver-Vu Bowl.

Elks trample Beavercreek

BEAVERCREEK — Host Beavercreek was limited to 12 points in the first half of Tuesday’s Feb. 14 63-38 loss to Centerville. Peyton Young and Cedric Baldwin each scored eight points to lead the Battlin’ Beavers. Beavercreek, now 9-12 overall, 4-7 Greater Western Ohio Conference, National East, winds up the regular season Friday, Feb. 17 for a 7:30 p.m. home game against Kettering Fairmont.

Knights fall to Southeastern

SOUTH CHARLESTON — Visiting Xenia Legacy Christian fell behind Southeastern 29-18 in the first half and couldn’t make up the deficit in Tuesday’s 66-52 Feb. 14 nonleague loss. Southeastern (20-1) is ranked No. 4 in the latest Associated Press boys high school basketball poll. No individual statistics were reported by either team. Legacy Christian (11-10) wraps up its regular season with a 7 p.m. game Friday, Feb. 17 at Dayton Miami Valley.

Arrows defeat Bellbrook

BELLBROOK — Camden Preble Shawnee outscored Bellbrook 25-6 in the second quarter, to claim an eventual 63-49 win over Bellbrook’s boys basketball team on Feb. 14. No individual statistics were available. Bellbrook (5-15) hosts Southwestern Buckeye League Southwestern division foe Eaton at 7:15 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17 for their next game.

Middle School

Skyhawks headed to title game

CENTERVILLE — Jodee Austin hit a game-winning shot at the buzzer in overtime to lead Fairborn to a 32-29 win over Centerville Middle School, Tuesday, Feb. 14 in an exciting tournament semifinal game. Austin also led the team in scoring with 15 points.

Fairborn trailed Centerville, 17-9, at halftime. The Skyhawks will play in the Greater Western Ohio Conference girls middle school Silver bracket basketball championship against Kettering Silver at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18 at Miamisburg Middle School.

JYSB signups continue

JAMESTOWN — The Jamestown Youth Softball and Baseball organization will hold registration opportunities for the upcoming 2017 season from Jan. 11 through Feb. 15 for all leagues. A new division, Ram-Ball, will be offered as a way to create interest in baseball and softball for youngsters ages 3 and 4. Late registration will run through March 3, but includes an additional late fee.

Costs are as follows: Ram-Ball (co-ed, ages 3-4) $35; T-Ball (co-ed ages 5-6) $75; 8U Coach Pitch (ages 7-8), 10U (ages 9-10), 12U (ages 11-12), and 15U (separate from OHSAA, season begins after the high school season ends) $75.

First Clodbusters meeting

GREENE COUNTY — The Clodbuster Base Ball Club was formed 28 years ago to demonstrate and enjoy the early years of the great American game of base ball. The team will play the game according to the rules of 1860 and dress in “uniforms” that would be appropriate for a farm community club in Ohio in the early 1860s. Matches are scheduled with other “vintage” clubs from around the area during the summer, and often participate in festivals and tournaments. Players range in age from their mid-20s to their late-50s, with some scorers, umpires, and historical interpreters still active into their early 70s.

Shamrock 5K set for March 11

SPRINGFIELD — The Shamrock 5-Kilometer run, set for Saturday March 11 at Buck Creek Reservoir, 1901 Buck Creek Lane in Springfield, is donating a portion of their entry fees to the family of Carly DeLong, a Catholic Central High School freshman whoh has been diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Beavercreek adult softball

BEAVERCREEK — Beavercreek Parks, Recreation, and Culture Department is currently accepting registrations for Summer Adult Softball for coed and men’s teams.

For fees and times contact the parks department. The league fees include team sanctioning, softballs, umpire fees, and awards. The season runs from April 17 to July 25 with all games played at Rotary Park.

Lions Club taking signups

BELLBROOK — The Bellbrook Lions Club would like to announce registrations for the Summer Baseball, Softball and T-ball programs for children ages 6 through 15. Parents may register their children by visiting the Lion’s Club sports website at www.bellbrooklionssports.org . Parents who wish to register their children in person may do so at Stephen Bell Elementary from 8-11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb, 25, or from 7-8:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 2.

The program will begin with practices in the month of April, with games beginning in May. Softball practice will begin in May, with games ending in mid July.
