Patriots defeat Dayton Christian

RIVERSIDE — Stafford Stevens scored 20 points, Eli Ramsey added 10, and the host Carroll Patriots boys basketball team claimed a 59-43 win Tuesday over Dayton Christian. With recent wins over Columbus Bishop Watterson (51-42 on Dec. 29) and Dayton Stivers (66-38 on Dec. 30), Carroll is now on a three-game winning streak.

The Patriots (4-5) will next play against Greater Catholic League Co-Ed North division rival Kettering Alter at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6 at Wright State University’s Nutter Center.

Jacks jump Fairborn

OAKWOOD —Visiting Fairborn boys basketball team was outscored 13-3 in the second quarter, Tuesday, and eventually fell to the Oakwood Lumberjacks by a 49-38 score. Andy Neff led Oakwood with 17 points and Connor Dinkler added 10. There were no individual statistics reported for Fairborn. The Skyhawks (3-5 overall, 3-1 in the Greater Western Ohio Conference’s American South division) next play at Vandalia Butler at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6.

Skyhawks take road loss

NEW CARLISLE — A slow start cost Fairborn Monday’s road contest with New Carlisle Tecumseh. The Skyhawks (3-6, 2-2 Greater Western Ohio Conference, American South) were outscored 15-3 in the first quarter and lost 63-40 in girls high school basketball. Jana Brown-Griffith led Fairborn with 14 points, while Evelyn Oktavec finished with 12. Brown-Griffith also led the team in rebounding with nine, while Khala Powell hauled in eight rebounds.

Tecumseh’s Corinne Thomas led all scorers with 25 points.

Aviators ground Xenia

XENIA — Evan Adkins, Zane Eneix, Ryan Day each rolled two-game series of 352 or better for Xenia, but it wasn’t enough to defeat Vandalia Butler’s boys bowlers on Tuesday. Led by Drew Sacks’ 475 two-game series, undefeated Butler (5-0, 4-0 Greater Western Ohio Conference American North) claimed a 2109 to 2021 team win.

Adkins led the Buccaneers (4-4, 2-3 GWOC American South)with his 375, Eneix rolled a 358 and Day tossed a 352 in the loss. Xenia will compete in the Viking Classic bowling tournament at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7 at Poelking South Lanes in Dayton.

Cedarville Wellness Fair today

CEDARVILLE — The Cedarville University Athletic Department, in association with the University’s Schools of Nursing and Pharmacy as well as Up and Running fitness store, will sponsor a wellness fair on Thursday, Jan. 5.

The free event is scheduled for 4:30 to 7 p.m. in the Callan Athletic Center.

Up and Running, a retail store specializing in fitness shoes and apparel, is the fair’s presenting sponsor. They will be one of multiple vendors in attendance. The School of Pharmacy will offer free health screenings and the School of Nursing will donate pedometers to the first 150 fair attendees.

On the court, the Lady Jackets meet Trevecca at 5:30 p.m., while the CU men face the Trojans at 7:45 p.m. Regular admission fees apply to the basketball games.

Paralympian signing autographs

BEAVERCREEK — Cedarville University student-athlete Grace Norman, the women’s triathlon gold medalist and women’s 400-meter run bronze medalist at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, will be signing autographs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7 at the Mall at Fairfield Commons.

The Xenia Christian High School graduate is a freshman at Cedarville University and has designs on competing in the 2020 Paralympic Games in Tokyo. The signin, which will take place in the second level food court, is open to the public and free of charge.

Boat club offering indoor program

DAYTON — The Dayton Boat Club is offering a two-month indoor rowing program this winter for adults looking to burn calories, build strength and endurance, meet new friends, and learn the mechanics of the sport of rowing from professional coaches and experienced rowers. The program starts with two sessions of instruction 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, and 9-11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, at the Downtown Dayton YMCA, 316 N. Fairborn induction set for Jan. 14

FAIRBORN — The Fairborn High School Athletic Department will host its third Athletics Hall of Fame induction ceremony beginning with a 4:30 p.m. dinner on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017 in the FHS Commons.

The 2016 Hall of Fame class consists of Ed McCloud (Class of 1964, Fairborn HS – Football/Baseball), Jackie (Smith) Whitaker (Class of 1981, Park Hills HS – Volleyball/Girls Basketball/Softball), Veasna Tith (Class of 1998, Fairborn HS – Boys Tennis), Fred J. Buschmeyer (Coach, Fairborn HS – Track & Field/Cross Country/Basketball) and the 1970 Boys Basketball District Championship team.

The official induction ceremony will take place at approximately 7 p.m. after the junior varsity boys basketball game and right before the scheduled 7:30 p.m. boys varsity game, at the Baker Memorial Fieldhouse, located at Baker Middle School, in Fairborn.
