Five named to All-Ohio football teams

GREENE COUNTY — Five area high school football players have been named to their respective divisions’ All-Ohio teams thus far, with perhaps more to come on Wednesday.

Beavercreek defensive lineman Jackson Kipper (6-foot-1, 245 pounds) was named as the only Greene County player to the Division I All-Ohio Honorable Mention team.

Two area standouts were named to the Division II All-Ohio second team: Xenia wideout Meechi Harris (6-2, 175) was on the D-II All-Ohio second team on offense, while Fairborn standout Brandon Easterling was named to the D-II All-Ohio second-team defense.

So far, Carroll is the only Greene County-area school to have multiple players named to an All-Ohio team this season. In Division III, Alex Story (6-0, 185) was named to the All-Ohio second team as a punter, while defensive lineman Lamont Harris (6-3, 225) was an All-Ohio honorable mention pick.

The All-Ohio selections for Division V (in which the county’s lone playoff competitor Greeneview is represented) through Division VII will be announced later this week.

Fairborn shortstop selected to showcase

FAIRBORN — Skyhawks sophomore shortstop Mackenzie Shaver has been named to participate in the Queen of Diamonds Showcase North, Dec. 3-4 in Akron.

Shaver, who plays summer ball for the Roadwarriors Softball Club out of Huber Heights as both a shortstop and a pitcher, was selected based on a variety of criteria including ability, potential, academic standing, coach requests and referrals. The QDSN, now in its 21st year, is expected to draw top athletes from 21 states and two Canadian provinces.

Indians hosting Hunger Game food drive

CEDARVILLE — A food drive to offset a hunger concern in Clark and Greene Counties will culminate Friday, Dec. 2, when Springfield Emmanuel Christian Academy tips off against host Cedarville High School. The varsity boys basketball game begins at 7 p.m.

Cedarville and Emmanuel Christian are competing to see which school collects the most food for “The Hunger Game” on Dec. 2. Residents can drop off food donations at each school beginning Monday, Nov. 28, until Thursday, Dec. 1. The amount collected will be announced at the basketball game between the two rivals.

In support of the effort, Cedarville University designed T-shirts for the drive that will be sold by each school. All of the money from the sales, anticipated to be $300, will be given to their local food pantries. The food collected by Emmanuel Christian Academy will be given to the Clark County Food Pantry. Cedarville High School will donate its food to the Cedarville United Presbyterian Church food pantry.
