Raider women win home opener

FAIRBORN — Five reached double figures and every Raider who played scored as the Wright State women’s basketball team defeated Grace (Indiana), 87-56, in its home opener Monday night.

The Raiders jumped out to a 20-11 lead after the first quarter and cruised from there. They led 45-25 at halftime and 64-38 after three quarters. Wright State never trailed and led for 37:57. The Raiders dominated inside, scoring 50 points in the paint.

Chelsea Welch scored 16 points and added seven rebounds and four steals in just 25 minutes. Symone Simmons added 13 points and 10 rebounds and Mackenzie Taylor 12 points and six rebounds. Emily Vogelpohl and Lexi Smith each added 11 points.

Wright State (2-0) heads to Illinois for a pair of games, facing Eastern Illinois 7:00 Eastern on Thursday, Nov. 17, and Chicago State 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19.
