Cinibulk earns team honors

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Bellbrook’s Peter Cinibulk of the Rochester Institute of Technology men’s soccer team earned 2016 Liberty League Fall All-Academic Team honors.

To be recognized as a member of the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must be a sophomore or higher in class standing with a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.30. The Liberty League elevated the GPA requirement from 3.20 to 3.30 this fall to follow the established standard for eligibility for College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America awards.

CU region runner-up secures NCAA bid

EVANSVILLE, Ind. — The Cedarville Yellow Jackets women’s cross country team took runner-up honors at the Division II Midwest Regional to earn its first-ever trip to the NCAA National Championship, on Saturday, Nov. 5. Cedarville secured one of the region’s five automatic bids to the national meet Nov. 19 in Saint Leo, Fla.

Grand Valley State repeated as champion in the 32-team event with 43 points while the Lady Jackets totaled 103. Rounding out the top five were Southern Indiana (123), Northern Michigan (181), and Hillsdale (185).

All seven CU runners turned in personal-bests for the 6,000 meters led by Carsyn Koch with a mark of 21:01 to finish ninth out of 220 competitors.

Olivia Esbenshade was 11th in 21:04 while Kayla Casaletto came in 25th in 21:34. The Top 25 finishers are recognized with all-region honors. Hailey Blackwell placed 27th in 21:38 and Alaina Spears was 31st in 21:48. Olivia Kundo also posted a time of 21:48 for 33rd place and Christy Jesson was 49th in 22:10.

Jackets drop G-MAC final in OT

ELKINS, W.Va. — No. 4 seed Alderson Broaddus scored early in the first overtime to defeat no. 3 Cedarville, 2-1, in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference men’s soccer championship, on Saturday, Nov. 5. It’s the first conference title for AB, 11-7-2, in what was a rematch of the 2015 final.

The Yellow Jackets, 11-7-3, entered as the three-time defending champions. The Battlers broke a scoreless duel in the 55th minute. Cedarville needed until the 83rd minute to finally level the match when John Schwien chipped a 10-yard shot over the keeper for his second goal of the season.

Alderson Broaddus wasted little time in the extra season by netting the game winner just 47 seconds after the whistle.

Yellow Jackets clinch G-MAC title

PHILIPPI, W.Va. — Gabby Olson totaled 16 kills and eight blocks to lead Cedarville to a four-set victory at Alderson Broaddus to wrap up the 2016 Great Midwest Athletic Conference regular season championship on Saturday, Nov. 5.

The Yellow Jackets, 22-7 overall and 9-1 G-MAC, earned the no. 1 seed at the upcoming conference tournament, Nov. 17-19 in Mason. Cedarville defeated AB by scores of 25-10, 25-27, 25-15, 25-16 for its sixth win in a row.

Abby Shelton ripped 12 kills with four blocks. Krissy Pratt was also in twin figures with 11 kills. Kristin Cardwell totaled 43 assists and five service aces. Angela Becker had a team-high 24 digs.

Cedarville 12th in Midwest Regional

EVANSVILLE, Ind. — Wyatt Hartman paced the Yellow Jackets to a 12th-place showing at the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional on Saturday, Nov. 5.

Hartman covered the 10,000 meters at the Angel Mounds Historic Site in a career-best 32:08. Ethan Sullivan placed 72nd out of 218 competitors in 32:22. Matthew Pelletier was 74th in 32:24 and Zac Bowen was 79th in 32:28. The remainder of CU’s line-up included Alex Weinhold (92nd; 32:52), Ethan Gatchell (117th; 33:25), and Jared Vega (132nd; 33:43).

Grand Valley State won the 31-team meet with 45 points while Southern Indiana was the runner-up with 99. Cedarville totaled 375 points.

Raiders drop four-setter

FAIRBORN — The Wright State volleyball team dropped a four-set Horizon League match to Illinois Chicago, Saturday, Nov. 5 at the C.J. McLin Gymnasium, 21-25, 25-27, 25-17, 22-25.

Swimming competes at UIC

CHICAGO, Ill. — The Wright State men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams were in Chicago Nov. 4-5 to face Illinois Chicago, Green Bay and Oakland, with the men picking up a win over Green Bay.

The men received first place finishes from Trevor Keriazes (100-meter breaststroke) and Kevin McCaffrey (200 breast). The women collected a first-place finish from the 200 medley relay team, setting a school record in the process.

WSU splits at Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE, Wis. — The Wright State swimming and diving teams split at Milwaukee on Sunday, Nov. 6, with the men picking up a win. The men won 132-109 while the women fell to the Panthers, 185-56.

The men received first-place finishes from Thomas Downey (1,000-meter freestyle), Dominic Poletta (100 butterfly), PJ Musser (100 and 200 free), Trevor Keriazes (100 breaststroke), Mitch Godar (1- and 3-meter diving) and the 200 medley relay team. Godar shattered his own school record in the 3-meter dive with a score of 370.35.

The women received two first-place finishes from Kyah Fleckner (1- and 3-meter diving).

The Raiders will return to action Friday, Nov. 18, when they compete in the University of Louisville Invitational.

Meet the team night at Beavercreek

BEAVERCREEK — Beavercreek’s basketball teams will be introduced 7-8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22 at the Ed Zink Fieldhouse at Beavercreek High School. The boys and girls high school and middle school teams will be there, along with cheerleaders, the pep band, the Beaverettes and the Beavercreek Stars.
