Beavers blank Sidney

BEAVERCREEK — The Beavercreek girls soccer team scored a goal in each half to beat Sidney, 2-0, and advance to a district final against Cincinnati Oak Hills at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct 29 at Princeton High School in Sharonville. Oak Hills was the no. 2 seed in Cincinnati.

Rams seek bowling coach

JAMESTOWN — Greeneview High School is looking for a bowling coach for this winter sports season. Practices can start Nov. 4, so if interested, please email or call the Greeneview Athletic Department at 937-675-9711 or [email protected].

Local athletes recognized

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. — Samuel Beal of Beavercreek won his first collegiate race, while the University of the Cumberlands men’s cross country team finished fifth out of 23 teams, Saturday, Oct. 22 at the ASICS Sand Shark Invitational.

Head Coach Randy Greer said, “Sam Beal finally came through with his first win of the year, which caps off the amazing regular season he is having.”

Beal also was named the Mid-South Conference Runner of the Week for the fifth time.

Beal out-paced 216 runners to cross the line with a winning time of 24:33.9. This is his fourth top-5 finish this season. James MacPherson of Beavercreek rounded out the Patriots top seven with a time of 27:55.05.

The women’s cross country at the Sand Shark Invitational had Meg McGaha of Beavercreek finishing with a time of 19:00.7 and Maureen McGaha, also of Beavercreek, across the line in a time of 19:37.0.

WSU men drop 1-0

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — A goal just 7:54 into the contest proved to be the difference as the Wright State men’s soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision at Penn State on Tuesday, Oct. 25.

Women’s soccer falls

FAIRBORN — The Wright State women’s soccer team dropped a 3-1 Horizon League decision to Northern Kentucky on Tuesday, Oct. 25 in the regular-season home finale at Alumni Field.

Cedarville battles to 1-1 draw

VIENNA, W.Va. — The Yellow Jackets and host Ohio Valley traded first-half goals and eventually settled for a 1-1 Great Midwest Athletic Conference draw in the regular season finale for both sides on Tuesday, Oct. 25.

Cedarville, 9-6-3 and 7-3-2 G-MAC, will host Kentucky Wesleyan in a first round conference tournament game on Saturday. The Yellow Jackets are the three-time defending G-MAC champions.

Derek Braak put CU on the board first in the 21st minute with his second goal of the year. Bryce Childers and Bradley Schluter assisted.

The Fighting Scots equalized just 34 seconds before the intermission. OVU owned the shot advantage 19-7 overall and 6-4 on goal. Senior keeper Paulo Pinto logged the full 110 minutes and made five saves.

Shelton powers CU to region win

CEDARVILLE — Abby Shelton pounded a season-high 24 kills to lead Cedarville to a four-set victory over Bellarmine in a non-conference region match at the Callan Athletic Center on Tuesday, Oct. 25. The Yellow Jackets, 17-7 overall, earned a 20-25, 25-20, 25-13, 25-13 victory.

Cedarville posted a .370 attack percentage for the match including a .615 accuracy in the decisive third set. Gabby Olson buried 14 kills and Krissy Pratt added eight. Rachel Krikke contributed seven kills and five blocks.

Kristin Cardwell piled up 49 assists, Angela Becker came up with 22 digs, and Taylor Wilkerson turned aside five blocks.

Conway nets 2 OT winner

VIENNA, W.Va. — Emma Conway’s first career goal provided Cedarville a 1-0 G-MAC victory in double overtime in the regular season finale at Ohio Valley on Tuesday, Oct. 25. The Lady Jackets head to the post-season at 7-9-1 overall and 7-6-1 G-MAC.

Conway received the ball outside the penalty area, one-touched it, and lofted a 20-yarder over the keeper and in for the winner. Danielle Mahek had the assist. Cedarville produced a sizable 16-5 margin in shots overall, however, each team placed five on goal.

Cedarville attempted six corner kicks in the contest and didn’t concede any. Senior keeper Hanna Harris was credited with five saves.

Reese, Jackets still in NCCAA hunt

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. — The Yellow Jackets bent, but didn’t break as they sit 10 shots off the pace heading into the final round of the NCCAA Men’s Golf Championship on Tuesday, Oct. 25.

Cedarville recovered from a near disastrous start to the second 18 holes to turn in a 313 for a two-day total of 620. Colorado Christian leads with 310-300-610. Dallas Baptist is at 613 while Southern Wesleyan and Grace are tied at 616. Jordan Reese is tied for third, one shot off the lead, with 72-75-147.

Taylor Holt, 77-75-152, is tied for eighth place. Other Yellow Jacket scores include Carter Ehms (74-88-162), John Sandlas (85-80-165), and Jared Hoelzen (84-83-167).

The top nine teams made the 36-hole cut to compete in the final round at The Hombre Golf Club. The top 10 individual finishers are recognized as NCCAA All-Americans.

Meet the FHS girls basketball team

FAIRBORN — The Fairborn girls basketball team will be introduced from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5 in the Fairborn Baker Middle School Gymnasium. The Fairborn Skyhawks youth basketball teams, Baker Middle School seventh- and eighth-grade teams, Fairborn High School junior varsity and the Fairborn varsity team will all be introduced to the public and will demonstrate their skills. There will be concessions available, a 50/50 raffle, prizes and more.
