FAIRFIELD, Ala. — Central State University fell to 0-6 on the season after Saturday’s 36-0 road loss to Miles College.

With a sold out crowd celebrating homecoming, Miles College found the end zone on two of its first three possessions to take a 14-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Golden Bears added a field goal and a safety to go up 19-0 midway through the second quarter. CSU’s best opportunity to put up points came right before halftime when the offense manufactured a 15 play – 82 yard drive. With a fourth and goal situation on the Miles 1 yard-line, the Golden Bears forced a CSU fumble and maintained their 19-point lead at halftime.

The Marauders marched down to the Miles 20 yard-line in the third quarter. Down by a large deficit, CSU opted to once again go for it on fourth down but were unsuccessful as Miles took over on downs. After a scoreless third quarter, Miles put the game out of reach in the fourth. The Golden Bears took advantage of two Marauders turnovers and great field position to put up 17 fourth quarter points and cruise to victory.

While the Marauders held a 35:19 to 24:41 advantage in possession, four turnovers and just 163 combined yards of offense hindered CSU from finding the end zone.

Miles quarterback David Whipple finished with 193 yards and three touchdowns through the air to lead the Golden Bear offense. The impressive defensive performance from MC was led by Austin Stephens, Cedric Poole and Caleb Duncan. Stephens intercepted a pass for a score to go along with a game-high 11 tackles. Poole recorded eight tackles and three pass break ups. Duncan had 1 interception and six tackles. With the win, Miles improves to 3-2 on the season. The Golden Bears are 2-1 in SIAC play and 1-0 in divisional competition.

With the loss, CSU falls to 0-6 overall with a 0-4 mark in SIAC play and a 0-2 record in the division. Central State hosts Lane College 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15.
