Greeneview tops Northeastern

JAMESTOWN — Caitlin Sweat had nine blocks, seven kills, two aces and two digs to lead Greeneview to a 25-22, 14-25, 25-17, 25-21 volleyball win over Springfield Northeastern, Wednesday Sept. 21. Brianna Seigfried added 15 assists, three digs and three important blocks, while Maddie Hines added six kills, three aces and two digs to help the Rams. Ashley Schloss had five kills, four blocks and two aces.

The reserve team won, 25-23, 25-17. Madyson Brittingham led with seven kills, five digs and one block. Amanda Mickle added five kills, six assists and five digs, while Bryce Ratliff had nine assists, two aces and two kills.

Bellbrook reserves fall to Alter

BELLBROOK — The Kettering Alter reserve golf team beat Bellbrook, 154-219, Wednesday, Sept. 21 at Yankee Trace Golf Club. Benton Miller shot 52 for Bellbrook, while Conner Merrill and Zach Crampton each had 54. Joey Derrico had 59.

Fairborn blanks Dixie

FAIRBORN — The Fairborn girls tennis team lost just 10 games in a convincing 5-0 win over Dixie, Wednesday Sept. 21. Brooklyn Hunter breezed to a 6-0, 6-0 win at first singles, while Acadia Wulf won, 6-4, 6-0, at second singles. Kyla Secrest won, 6-0, 6-0, at third singles.

The first doubles team of Shayna Osborne and Preslee Chapman won, 6-3, 6-1, at first doubles, while Dakota Thacker and Megan Koonce won, 6-1, 6-1, at second doubles.

Fairborn improved to 8-10 overall and has a couple important Greater Western Ohio Conference matches coming up.

Beavercreek tops Northmont

BEAVERCREEK — Beavercreek’s girls soccer team improved to 5-2-2 overall and 4-1-1 in the Greater Western Ohio Conference with a 4-0 win over Clayton Northmont, Wednesday, Sept. 21.

Greeneview volleyball loses pair

JAMESTOWN — Greeneview’s seventh and eighth grade girls volleyball teams lost to Cedarville, Wednesday, Sept. 21. The seventh grade team lost, 22-25, 23-25. Emma Waller had seven points and eight digs. Sarah Trisel added 10 digs.

The eighth grade team lost, 25-20, 24-26, 11-24. Kimmy Robinette had 18 points, while Elizabeth McDonald added nine. McDonald also had 20 digs, as did, Elizabeth Reichley. Klarissa Knisley and Leach Hoyle each added 14.

Cinibulk athlete of the week

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Sophomore Peter Cinibulk of Bellbrook studying computer science at Rochester Institute of Technology is a member of RIT’s men’s soccer team and was named Liberty League Men’s Soccer Defensive Performer of the Week for the week ending Sept. 18.

It is the first time this season Cinibulk has been honored by the conference.

Cinibulk posted a 0.44 goals against average and a .928 save percentage in two games in goal last week for RIT, allowing just one goal and made 13 saves. Wednesday, Cinibulk made six saves and did not allow a goal in a 0-0 draw at Elmira. Saturday, Cinibulk made seven saves, including four big stops down the stretch in a 1-0 overtime loss at Rochester in the fifth annual Hillside Community Shield.

Cinibulk is 2-3-1 on the season with a 0.64 goals against average. He ranks 45th in all of Division III with an .871 save percentage to go along with three shutouts.

Cal scores late to beat CU

CALIFORNIA, Pa. — The game’s only goal came in the 86th minute as California, Pa. blanked the Yellow Jackets, 1-0, in a non-conference contest on Sept. 21.

The Vulcans, 4-1-1, broke the scoreless duel with 4:10 left on the clock on a diving header. Cedarville, 3-3-1, was credited with more shots overall, 21-16, as well as on goal, 11-7. Cal was called for 18 fouls compared to eight for the Jackets. Graham Sachtleben made six saves. He played all 90 minutes in goal in what was his first appearance this year.

Jackets continue climb in rankings

CEDARVILLE — The Cedarville Yellow Jackets womens cross country team moved up to a best-ever No. 11 in the country in the latest U.S. Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division II Women’s Cross Country Coaches national poll.

Cedarville improved its position by three spots after winning its own 26th Annual Friendship Invitational on Sept. 17. Six other Midwest Region members are in the Top 25 including No. 1 Grand Valley State (Michigan).

Others include No. 6 Southern Indiana, No. 7 Hillsdale (Mich.), No. 15 Malone, No. 17 Northern Michigan, and No. 23 Lewis (Ill.). The Yellow Jackets host the All-Ohio Intercollegiate Championship on Sept. 30.

Men’s soccer slips past E. Illinois

FAIRBORN — An Eric Lynch goal in the 74th minute proved to be the game-winner Sept. 21 as the Wright State Univeristy Raider men’s soccer prevailed over Eastern Illinois 1-0 at Alumni Field. WSU had five shots at the goal and Eastern had three shots.

BEAVERCREEK — Wilberforce Bulldog Athletics will presents its first golf tournament to benefit the university athletic program Saturday, Sept. 24 at Beavercreek Golf Course, 2800 New Germany Trebein Road. Racing continues at Shady Bowl

DEGRAFF — Shady Bowl Speedway will try once again 7 p.m. Sept. 24 with racing. The late models Mike Ward, street stocks Rodney Roush and modifieds Mike Carroll crowned their season champions two weeks ago. Saturday will see the pure stocks, tuners and compacts crown their champions.

The COLA Late Models will race this week. The new series will race in a 40-lap feature. It will be the biggest of the season for the compacts as they will be competing in the All American Compact Challenge. This will mark the third running of the race, with Rob Sharpe and Larry Adams winning the first two. The pure stocks, compacts and tuners will be in action as well as the spectator drag races. The Bowl will wrap up its 2016 season with a big Halloween race on Oct. 22.

5K Heart Walk/Run

DAYTON — Fifth Third Field will host the American Heart Association’s Greater Dayton 5K Heart Walk/Run 7:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24. A signature event of the American Heart Association, the Heart Walk/Run promotes physical activity and healthy living in an environment that’s fun for the whole family. All proceeds will go toward funding research and education involving the reduction of heart disease and stroke.

Before the event begins, families can roam the concourse or enjoy a fun and interactive health and wellness fair on the plaza. The third annual Kids Fun Run/Walk will begin shortly after 8:30 a.m. Opening ceremonies begin at 9 a.m. The 5K Race and Heart Walk is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. Individuals or teams can register online at [../2014/heart.org/daytonwalk]heart.org/daytonwalk or by calling Kim Doherty at 937-853-3110.
