Beavers tie St. Ursula

BEAVERCREEK — Freshman Marcella Cash scored her first goal to help Beavercreek tie Cincinnati St. Ursula, 2-2, in girls soccer Sept. 12.

St. Ursula went up 1-0 with 33 minutes left in the match, but Marissa Ashbrook nailed a penalty kick to tie it with 15:19 left. Less than a minute later, Cash gave the Beavers a 2-1 lead off an assist from Diana Benigno. St. Ursula tied it with 5:48 left.

Beavercreek is 3-2-2, while St. Ursula is 3-3-2.

Beavers fourth in state poll

COLUMBUS — The Beavercreek boys soccer team remained fourth in the latest Ohio Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association Division-I state poll, but the Beavers gained a few points on no. 1 Cleveland St. Ignatius. Beavercreek received 67 points this week, up from last week’s 63. St. Ignatius was still a unanimous no. 1 with 100 points. Beavercreek is the only ranked team from the Dayton area.

Carroll’s boys remained no. 2 in the D-II poll with 79 points. Columbus St. Francis DeSales received 100 points. Carroll’s girls dropped from fourth to seventh in the D-II poll, but are still ahead of Tipp City Tippecanoe and Kettering Alter, who were eighth and ninth respectively.

Bellbrook golfers edge Eaton

BELLBROOK — Mason Zimmer fired a 38 to help Bellbrook beat Eaton in boys golf action Sept. 12. Raif Foster followed with a 40, while Trevor Pittman had 41 and William Martin and Luke DiCicco 43.

Cedarville falls to Madison Plains

CEDARVILLE — Noah Myers tied for medalist honors with a 39, but London Madison Plains topped Cedarville, 161-179 in boys golf Sept. 12. Caleb Smith shot 44, and Daly Blevins and Jadon Horsley 48 for the Indians.

Greeneview golfers win

JAMESTOWN — Wade Hovan’s 1-over 36 at Sebastian Hills helped Greeneview improve to 10-2 overall and 6-2 in the Ohio Heritage Conference with a 158-173 golf win over Springfield Northeastern Sept. 12. Brayden Woods followed with a 39, while Zach Holder shot 41 and Christian Phillips 42. Ethan Dailey had a 43 and Daniel Sage 45.

Mechanicsburg beats Rams volleyball

JAMESTOWN — Caitlin Sweat had seven blocks and four kills for Greeneview’s volleyball team in an 18-25, 22-25, 15-25 loss to Mechanicsburg Sept. 12. Ashley Schloss had five kills and three blocks, while Briana Seigfried had nine assists.

The reserve team won, 25-15, 25-22 as Bryce Ratliff had eight assists and four kills. Maddy Cadawallader had four kills, while Grace Morris had four aces.

Greeneview blanks Springfield Catholic

JAMESTOWN — The Rams had little trouble posting a 5-0 tennis win over Springfield Catholic Central Sept 12. Molly Nixon won, 6-2, 6-2, at first singles, Ellie Adkins won, 6-2, 6-3, at second singles and Ciara Reffitt won, 6-4, 7-5, at third singles. Katy Hilbig and Erin Miller won, 6-0, 6-0, at first doubles and Sara Givens and Marinda Shoemaker won, 6-1, 6-1, at second doubles.

Fairborn edges Lebanon

FAIRBORN — Megan Koonce and Dakota Thacker won an intense match at third doubles, 7-6, 4-6, 7-6 (7-2) to give Fairborn a 3-2 tennis win over Lebanon Sept. 12.

“Wow. What a match and what a finish,” coach Doug Coy said. “As much of an up and down season as we’ve had at number two doubles, this was an especially gratifying win for Megan and Dakota.”

Brooklyn Hunter won her match at first singles, 6-0, 6-1, and Kyla Secrest won, 6-0, 4-6, 7-5, at third singles for Fairborn.

Acadia Wulf lost, 2-6, 6-3, 0-6 at second singles, while Shayna Osborne and Preslee Chapman lost, 2-6, 2-6 at first doubles.

“Even in our losses, we were right there,” Coy said. “This was a great win for our team tonight.”

WSU competes in invitational

FAIRBORN — The Wright State golf team competed Monday in the first two rounds of the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational, held at Berry Hills Country Club in Charleston, W.Va. Senior Ryan Wenzler leads the way for the Raiders with a score of 136 through two rounds, good for fifth overall. Play continued Tuesday. Results will be available in Wednesday’s edition.

WILBERFORCE — The 2016 Hall of Fame Luncheon will be held at Country Club of the North 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14. All those planning to attend must RSVP prior to the event and purchase tickets on or before Friday, Oct. 2.

Five individuals and four teams make up this year’s class: Leonard “Tony” Blaine ‘62, John E. REGIONAL ACTION

Shady Bowl results

DEGRAFF — Shady Bowl Speedway fans were treated to a full night of racing Sunday that started with an emotional tribute to the 9/11 attack that stunned everyone worldwide 15 years ago. Racers came down on the track from the pit area to take several laps with some cars displaying the American flag with the National Anthem played.

Mike Ward of Urbana won the late model feature and clinched the 2016 Late Model championship. Brad Yelton of Bellefontaine with car owner Rick Eilemer after winning the modified feature. Mike Carroll of Kettering won the modified 2016 track championship. Jim Lewis Jr of Fairborn won the street stock feature. Rodney Roush of Sidney was the 2016 street stock champion. Finally Ryan Smith of Columbus won the compact feature.

COLA late models will return on Saturday, Sept. 17 for their third event of the season. The All American Compact Challenge will also be on the schedule. This annual 100 lap event will pay $1,000 to win.
