FAIRBORN — ESPN basketball analyst Chris Broussard will be the featured speaker Thursday, Oct. 6 at the Second Annual Raider Tip-Off Premiere. The Premiere acts as the launch to the 2016-17 basketball season and will also include a VIP reception, silent auction, dinner, and introductions of the women’s and men’s basketball teams.

New head coaches Katrina Merriweather and Scott Nagy are a mere month away from beginning their first seasons at the helm. Merriweather takes over the women’s team after six years as an assistant under Mike Bradbury, who left to become head coach at the University of New Mexico. She was a vital cog in the unprecedented success of the program, which won 128 games over that six-year span.

Nagy comes to Wright State after a highly successful 21-year stint at South Dakota State. His last six years there produced a .693 winning percentage, three NCAA tournament appearances, and multiple wins against Power 5 teams. Both coaches will preview the upcoming season and provide insights into their teams.

Guest speaker Chris Broussard is an internationally-known NBA analyst and award-winning journalist for ESPN. As a senior writer for ESPN The Magazine and ESPN.com, he makes regular television appearances on ABC and ESPN and has served as an analyst on the network’s flagship NBA show, “NBA Countdown,” alongside basketball legend Magic Johnson.

Broussard has a gift and a passion for inspiring and empowering men and women of all ages. He has established a reputation as a world-class speaker to go along with his credentials as an award-winning journalist. He was born in Baton Rouge, La., but spent a good part of his teenage years in Ohio. He played basketball at and graduated from Oberlin College in 1990. He began his career at The Cleveland Plain Dealer, then had stops at the Akron Beacon Journal and The New York Times, before joining ESPN The Magazine in 2004.

Doors to the main floor of the arena will open at 6 p.m. with dinner and the evening program beginning at 7 p.m. VIP and General Admission tickets are available for purchase. Individual VIP tickets start at $115 and General Admission tickets start at $70, and can be purchased through the WSU Athletics Department, located on the third floor of the Nutter Center.
