FAIRBORN — The Wright State volleyball team is hoping for some more home cooking when it hosts the Holiday Inn Invitational beginning Friday, Aug. 26.
The Raiders won the invitational last year, starting the season 3-0 en route to a 15-16 finish.
The round-robin tournament in the CJ McLin Gym also includes SIU Edwardsville, Toledo and Dayton.
Head coach Susan Clements enters her fifth season at the helm of the Raiders, who have improved drastically since going 2-30 in Clements’ first season. A promising sign is that WSU will be returning several impactful players from last season that should help the Raiders offensively and defensively, in addition to retaining team cohesiveness.
Junior outside hitter Katie Klusman had a breakout season with a team-high 430 kills and 274 digs, which was second on the team. In the Horizon League she earned offensive player of the week honors in late August and finished fifth in kills with 15 double-doubles. Klusman hopes to lead her teammates to the HL tournament.
The Raiders play Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville 7 p.m. Friday, followed by a 1 p.m. game against Toledo and a 6:30 match against Dayton Saturday, Aug. 27.
The Raiders head to Kent for the Golden Flashes Classic beginning Friday, Sept. 2 and don’t play at home again until hosting Oakland Friday, Sept. 30.
