Patriot 5K Run set for July 30

RIVERSIDE — The Carroll Women’s Soccer 2016 Patriot 5-Kilometer Run will be held on Saturday, July 30 at Carroll High School, located at 4524 Linden Avenue. New for this year is The Little Pats Lap, for runners 7 years old and younger.

The event will start and end at Carroll High School’s Patriot Stadium, with the Little Pats Lap set for 8:40 a.m. and the Patriot 5K set to go off at 9 a.m.

Registration fee is $26 for adults, $21 for students. Little Pat contestants’ fee is $6. Kids 13 and under in the 5K pay $16. Race day registration begins at 8 a.m. Runners can signup online at www.alliancerunning.com/race-entry.php?id=83 through midnight, July 28. T-shirts are guaranteed to runners who register by July 15.

SW Ohio Track Club program under way

YELLOW SPRINGS — The Southwest Ohio Track Club’s Summer Track and Field Program has begun. This program is open to youth 7 years older and older including Masters. Practices are on 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday at Yellow Springs High School through July 21. The summer program is a certified USATF program with excellent coaching and training. BASKETBALL

Girls fall leagues filling now

BEAVERCREEK — The Beavercreek High School girls basketball program will be hosting the 17th Annual Girls Basketball Fall League from Sept. 11 to Oct. 23 on Sundays at the high school, located at 2660 Dayton-Xenia Road.

All teams will play a total of seven games on five Sundays with no game TBA (to accommodate the college exposure tournaments, date subject to change).

The league will be a total of 12 high school teams (ninth through 12th grade). There will be 8-10 girls per team, keeping in mind that only two players from each school may play on the same team (per the Ohio High School Athletic Association rule). Space is limited to 120 players and restricted based on OHSAA rules. The talent level will be balanced as much as possible across all teams and a coach will be supplied for each team.

Deadline is Aug. 22, or until the league is full. Cost is $75 per player, which includes a numbered jersey. Make checks payable to: Beavercreek Athletic Boosters.

Reds hosting ‘Night of Their Own’

CINCINNATI — The Cincinnati Reds baseball organization will be hosting the third annual A Night of Their Own — Baseball 101 event from 4:30-9:30 p.m. July 21 at Great American Ball Park in downtown Cincinnati. The event is a chance for women of all ages to eat, play and learn with Reds coaches, broadcasters, staff and special guests to get an inside look at the game of baseball.

A dinner buffet will be served from 5:30 -6:30 p.m., followed by the chance to throw on the pitcher’s mound, shag fly balls in the outfield and even take a few swings at live pitches in the batter’s box. Attendees will meet Reds manager Bryan Price, and broadcasters Marty and Thom Brennaman. Attendees will also get baseball tips from members of the Reds coaching staff, including third base coach and former Cincinnati Reds player Billy Hatcher.

Cost is $175 which includes an upscale buffet with open bar, an upgraded gift bag featuring an exclusive ladies Reds watch and a Reds wine tumbler, a ticket to an upcoming Reds baseball game, and an extensive guided tour of the ball park. All proceeds will benefit outreach programs of the Reds Community Fund.

Tickets on sale for Night Fall drifting event at Kil-Kare

Street League Drifting will host a Night Fall drifting event, Aug. 6 at Kil-Kare Raceway, located at 1166 Dayton-Xenia Road in Xenia. Gates open for drivers at noon with a drivers’ meeting set for 1:30 p.m. Hot laps are set to start at 2 p.m. Spectator gates open at 4 p.m.

Street League is an affordable series for drivers and teams to put their personal style and driving ability on display. Tandem, individual and team drifting competitions are scheduled to take place.
