Ritter’s hosting Olympic sendoff, June 24
BEAVERCREEK — Ritter’s Frozen Custard will host an Olympic Trials Send Off celebration for international race walking competitor Susan Randall, of Beavercreek. Randall is one of the top-14 racewalkers in the nation who will be competing in the US Olympic Trials on June 30-July 2 in Charlotte, N.C.
The Send Off will take place from 5-8 p.m. June 24 at Ritter’s, 2531 Dayton Xenia Road. Randall will be on hand, and several area businesses have provided Raffle Baskets for the occasion. Tickets cost $5 for six, $10 for 12. A percentage of the evening’s sales at Ritter’s will go to help support Randall’s Olympic effort.
Rowing Assn. hosting Olympic Day
DAYTON — The Greater Dayton Rowing Association (GDRA) will be hosting a learn to row Olympic Day to attract new rowers to the sport. They are the only local team that will send local athletes to compete at the 2016 Youth National Championships in West Windsor, N.J., in June. GDRA and fellow sponsors will hold the learn to row on June 25. An Olympic athlete will be on-site, and there will be several activities to introduce the sport to the public.

Junior Golf League starts June 29
XENIA — WGC Golf Course will also have its Wednesday Junior Golf League starting at 10:45 a.m. June 29. This nine-hole league will continue each Wednesday through July. Golfers with some playing experience are welcome to compete. The league was started back in 1975 by Jim Beaver and Garay Goecke who will supervise play each week. Men’s Soccer
Raider freshman named Second Team All-USA
FAIRBORN — Alec Philippe, who will join the Wright State men’s soccer team as a freshman this fall, was recently named Second Team American Family Insurance All-USA by USA Today High School Sports.
Philippe (Milwaukee, Wis. Marquette), a 6-foot-2 forward, earned All-American honors as a senior as he was selected to the All-Midwest Region Team, was the Wisconsin Gatorade Player of the Year and was named the state Co-Player of the Year by Wisconsin Soccer Coaches Association. Philippe led the Hilltoppers with 28 goals and 12 assists as Marquette won the Division I state title, tying the state record for assists in the finals with three.
As a junior, Philippe again led Marquette to a state title as he scored a team-best 27 goals and added five assists. He was named to the All-Midwest Region Team as well as First Team All-State. On the club level, Philippe has played for six years with the Bavarian SC.
The 2015-16 American Family Insurance All-USA Boys Soccer Teams were selected by USA TODAY High School Sports based on performance, level of competition and strength of schedule.
Wright State will open the regular season on the West Coast in late August, facing Portland on Friday, Aug. 26, and Oregon State on Sunday, Aug. 28. The home opener for the Raiders will be on Labor Day, Sept. 5, as WSU hosts Duquesne at 7 p.m.

Barlow named Assistant Coach
FAIRBORN — Wright State head women’s basketball coach Katrina Merriweather announced Thursday the addition of Ashley Barlow as an assistant coach.
Barlow comes to Wright State after three years as an assistant coach at the University of Evansville, where her responsibilities included working with the scoring guards, assisting with recruiting, scouting of opponents, and other day-to-day operations. Barlow came to Evansville after spending two seasons as an assistant at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI).
Randall named Assistant Coach
FAIRBORN — Wright State head women’s basketball coach Katrina Merriweather announced Wednesday the addition of Semeka Randall as an assistant coach.
Randall joins the Raider staff after serving as the head coach at Alabama A&M the past three seasons.
Under her guidance in 2014-15, the Lady Bulldogs led the Southwestern Athletic Conference in free-throw shooting, making 449 of 652 attempts for a .689 percentage. Senior point guard Brittney Strickland, who was named second team All-SWAC, was the league’s top free-throw shooter, making 134 of 158 attempts for a .848 percentage.

Reds hosting ‘Night of Their Own’
CINCINNATI — The Cincinnati Reds baseball organization will be hosting the third annual A Night of Their Own — Baseball 101 event from 4:30-9:30 p.m. July 21 at Great American Ball Park in downtown Cincinnati. The event is a chance for women of all ages to eat, play and learn with Reds coaches, broadcasters, staff and special guests to get an inside look at the game of baseball.
A dinner buffet will be served from 5:30 -6:30 p.m., followed by the chance to throw on the pitcher’s mound, shag fly balls in the outfield and even take a few swings at live pitches in the batter’s box. Attendees will meet Reds manager Bryan Price, and broadcasters Marty and Thom Brennaman. Attendees will also get baseball tips from members of the Reds coaching staff, including third base coach and former Cincinnati Reds player Billy Hatcher.
Cost is $175 which includes an upscale buffet with open bar, an upgraded gift bag featuring an exclusive ladies Reds watch and a Reds wine tumbler, a ticket to an upcoming Reds baseball game, and an extensive guided tour of the ball park. All proceeds will benefit outreach programs of the Reds Community Fund.
