CAESARSCREEK TOWNSHIP — David Painter was one of the earliest residents of Caesarscreek Township. When he and his family constructed their first log house, there were only three cabins between his home and Waynesville. As a Quaker, he did not believe in warfare, nevertheless shouldered his rifle and marched with other volunteers to Urbana to protect the Ohio settlements from the Indians who were reported to be coming southward, after having massacred a large number of settlers. He razed his log cabin in 1830 to erect a brick structure.
