Firestorm tryouts today, Wednesday


FAIRBORN — The Firestorm Fast Pitch Select girls softball team will be holding team tryouts from 10 a.m.-noon today for 10U and 12U athletes, and from 6-8 p.m. Aug. 27 for 10U, 12U and 14U at Fairborn Community Park, located on 691 Dayton-Yellow Springs Road just west of Fairborn High School.

Skyhawk Athletic Club seeking members


FAIRBORN — The Skyhawk Athletic Club is seeking members for 2014-2015. The club is an active organization of parents, teachers, coaches, alumni and friends who support athletes of the Fairborn City School system. The club meets at 7 p.m. on the second Wednesday of each month in the Fairborn High School commons area. Membership options range from $5 for to $100. Alumni football teams wanted


Gridiron Alumni is planning several full-contact alumni football games. Gridiron Alumni travels the nation pitting old football rivals against each other one more time. Hundreds of players and thousands of fans swarmed stadiums to watch their hometown heroes strap it on one more time. Gridiron Alumni is targeting teams like Xenia, Beavercreek, Greeneview, and many others. Players from all local areas are invited to register to play. Players are needed to sign up for their alma mater and the first 40 players on each team get to play. The team that gets 30 people registered first gets home field advantage. Hummingbirds Soccer offered


BEAVERCREEK — The Beavercreek Parks and Recreation Department, in cooperation with Jump Start Sports, is offering Hummingbirds Soccer for children ages 3-6. The camp is scheduled for Mondays, from 5:30-6:30 p.m., Sept. 8-Oct. 13 (ages 3-4), and 6:30-7:30 p.m. (ages 5-6) at Rotary Park. Fee for residents is $65; non-resident fee is $75.


Boys and girls will have fun and learn the basics of soccer: dribbling, passing, trapping, shooting and positioning. Each session consists of instruction in each aspect of the game, fun drills that are designed to teach skills, and low-key non-competitive games.

Introductory Lacrosse in September


BEAVERCREEK — Beavercreek Parks and Recreation in cooperation with Jump Start Sports is offering Introductory Lacrosse Camp for children in grades K-5. The camp is scheduled from 6-7:15 p.m. Tuesdays, Sept. 9-Oct. 14, at Rotary Park. Fee for residents is $65; non-resident fee is $75.


Experienced coaches, provided by Jump Start Sports, will lead the training on all the fundamentals, including: passing, catching, fielding ground balls, cradling, spacing, positioning and defense. Players will be divided by gender and age to play fun game situational scrimmages. Plastic sticks and soft balls will be provided.

HBCUX Network to Host Bahamas First American Football Classic


For the first time, two Historically Black College and Universities (HBCUs) will play a football game in Nassau, Bahamas. HBCUX, a recently launched digital media network, and the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism are teaming up to produce the inaugural “Bahamas HBCUX Classic.” HBCUX is planning a weekend of events this fall in Nassau highlighted by a football game and battle of the bands competition between Central State and Texas Southern Universities, preceded by a star-studded tailgate concert. The game will be held in Nassau’s refurbished 15,000-seat, multi-purpose Thomas Robinson Stadium on Sept. 13.
