XENIA — Thanks to their come-from-behind win earlier today, the Hamilton Joes will face the Xenia Scouts tonight, in the third round of the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League baseball playoffs.

In Tuesday’s 2 p.m. game at Grady’s Field, on the Athletes In Action sports complex in Xenia, Hamilton edged the Lake Erie Monarchs by a 5-4 score.

The Joes trailed 4-1, but tied the game with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on Sean Kennedy’s home run. They then scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh when Zach Hummel ran in on a wild pitch.

Kennedy went 4-for-5 at the plate with a home run and three runs batted in. The Joes first baseman plays for Ball State University and is from Dayton.

Hummel and teammate Jesse Rait both went 3-for-4 at the plate for the Joes. Hamilton ripped a total of 17 hits in the game. Meanwhile, Hamilton pitchers Jacob Banks, Andrew Zellner, Jason Link and Nathan Helke combined to limit the Lake Erie Monarchs to just three hits.

Hamilton (20-21) will now face Xenia (21-19) at 7:30 p.m. tonight at Grady’s Field. The winner will advance to the GLSCL semifinal three-game playoff series against the Southern Ohio Copperheads.

Southern Ohio, the tournament’s second-seeded team, will open the semifinal series at either Hamilton or Xenia, depending on who wins tonight’s contest. The Copperheads will then host the next two games of the series, if necessary, on their home field on the Ohio University campus in Athens.

In other early action, the Licking County Settlers defeated the Grand Lake Mariners, 2-1, to advance on to play the Cincinnati Steam in tonight’s other GLSCL playoff game. That game is set for a 7:30 p.m. start at McLeary Field at Western Hills High, in Cincinnati. The winner of that game will host the regular season champion Lima Locos for the first game of the other semifinal series. The final two games of that series will then be held in Lima.
