Limbaugh named Horizon League Batter of the Week


FAIRBORN — Wright State senior left fielder Jeff Limbaugh was named the Horizon League Batter of the Week for the week ending April 20.


Limbaugh hit .500 at the plate as the Raiders swept University of Illinois Chicago this past weekend on the road to improve to 15-2 in league play. He opened the series with a 2-for-4 effort with two RBIs and two runs scored as the Raiders won 11-5 on Thursday. On Friday, Limbaugh was 3-for-4 with a triple, RBI and a run scored as WSU posted a 4-1 win. On Saturday, he was 1-for-4 at the plate as the Raiders completed the sweep. He hit a two-out RBI double in the second to tie the game at two and scored the game-winning run in the eighth inning in the 9-7 Wright State win.


Wright State (21-16, 15-2 Horizon) is on the road for four games this week, starting at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at Akron. The Raiders then travel to Oakland for a three-game series over the weekend.


Wright State finishes play at Rutherford Intercollegiate


UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Wright State golf team wrapped up play at the Rutherford Intercollegiate with the final round Sunday in State College, Pennsylvania. The Raiders finished tied for 13th with a combined score of 917.


Cody Nickson and Conner Lash each led the way for the Raiders as they both finished in a tie for 39th with a three-round score of 224. Austin Sipe finished 47th with 229 and Ryan Wenzler and Nick Capozzoli tied at 72 with a score of 241.


Minnesota placed first in the tournament with 860 points and Seton Hall came in second with a total team score of 872.


Wright State now turns its attention to the Horizon League Championships, which begins with the opening round on Friday in Howie-in-the-Hills, Fla.


Sites doubles up at Kil-Kare


XENIA — Tipp City driver Jamie Sites had a great night as he swept both Modified and Street stock features, Friday at Kil-Kare Raceway. In the street stock main James Harding, Mark Stump, Jim Lewis Jr. and Bo Hoelsher finished behind Sites. Sites also won the dash, with Marcus Melzer capturing the heat win.


The late model feature proved Bill Burba may be the man to beat when he won the late model main by a straightaway. Cody Robinson, Arlis Williams, Dylan Troyer and Tyler Mahaffey rounded out the top five. Mahaffey was the dash winner.


In the Compacts, Bill Honious held off a late challenge by Amber Holley to claim the Compact feature. Holley won the dash.


Gates open for the regular program at 6 p.m. on Fridays at Kil-Kare Raceway.
