BEAVERCREEK — Three Beavercreek runs in the fifth inning gave the Beavers all the runs they needed in an eventual 3-1 home win, Friday, over Springfield Shawnee.
The game was scoreless through four innings of play until the bottom of the 5th inning. Added by a pair of Shawnee errors, Brent Brunswick found himself on second base. Quinton Walker singled and moved Brunswick to second. Sophomore Jackson Back smacked a triple to score Brunswick and Walker, then Caelan King singled home Walker with the Beavers’ third run of the inning.
It appeared as if Beavercreek was going to win with a shutout under Walker’s pitching, but Shawnee’s Evan Lyons, Kalen Frederick and Seth Gray reached to load the bases for the Braves. A hit by Andrew Tincher brought Lyons home and made the score 3-1 with ‘Creek in the lead going into the bottom of the sixth inning.
With the one run scored by Shawnee in the sixth, Beavercreek closer Mike Elmore finished the game with three quick outs.
The Beavers were to host cross-town and Greater Western Ohio Conference rivals Centerville on Monday. The two GWOC foes are scheduled to play at 5 p.m. today at Centerville High.
