CEDARVILLE — The Cedarville Yellow Jackets split a doubleheader with Kentucky State, Wednesday at Yellow Jacket Field. Cedarville (13-9) won the first game 8-3, scoring five runs in the sixth inning. Peter Martin (3-0) earned the win for Cedarville and Cody Pfaadt (0-4) was given the loss for Kentucky State (5-26). Catcher Jaden Cleland had 3 RBIs for the Yellow Jackets.
The second game had a different result, with Kentucky State beating Cedarville 5-1. Kentucky State pitcher Cornell Brown (3-3) was given the win after four innings pitched. Trent Johnson (0-2) got the loss. Mike Swayne scored twice for Kentucky State with four at-bats.
Raiders wrap up play at Middleburg Bank Intercollegiate
WILLIAMBURG, Va. — The Wright State golf team finished 22nd with a three-day team score of 919 as the Middleburg Bank Intercollegiate came to an end, Tuesday at the River Course at Kingsmill Resort.
Conner Lash led the Raiders in all three rounds as he finished tied for 37th with a score of 222. Cody Nickson finished at 83 with a score of 230. Ryan Wenzler finished in 96th place at 232. Nick Capozzoli had a score of 237 and finished 117th. Austin Sipe finished with 242 at 130th.
The Raiders return to action April 12-13 when they travel to Lexington, Ky., to compete in the Bluegrass Invitational.
Wright State players earn softball honors
FAIRBORN — The Wright State softball team swept this week’s Horizon League honors as junior outfielder Jess Gorman was named the Batter of the Week while sophomore Montana Wear was selected as the Pitcher of the Week.
Gorman went seven for 10 at the plate, including four doubles, a triple and a home run, drove in three and scored three times in four games. She started the week by going three for four in a doubleheader at Miami on March 20. Gorman was 2-for-2 with two doubles and an RBI in the first game and added a solo home run in the second game.
Wear posted a 2-0 record for the week along with a 0.54 earned run average with 10 strikeouts in 13 innings. She picked up the win with three innings of relief in the first game at Miami, striking out two, and added another strikeout in three more relief innings in the second game.
Wright State (5-17, 2-0 Horizon) has four home games on the slate for this week, starting with a single game against crosstown rival Dayton at 5 p.m today. The Raiders then host Green Bay for a three-game Horizon League series over the weekend, taking on the Phoenix in a doubleheader at 1 p.m. Saturday, followed by a single game at 11 p.m. on Sunday.
Sexton Selected as HL Pitcher of the Week
FAIRBORN — Sophomore lefthander Robby Sexton of the Wright State baseball team has been selected as the Horizon League Pitcher of the Week.
Sexton earned the win on Sunday as the Raiders completed a three-game Horizon League series sweep over Oakland at Nischwitz Stadium. He went seven innings, allowing two runs on five hits, walking three and striking out seven.
Wright State (12-11, 6-0 Horizon) heads to Youngstown State this weekend for a three-game series.
