Carroll 10th at Cleveland meet
Nick Berry (113 pounds) and Chris Hughes (170) each placed fourth in their respective weight classes, and Lyndon Engle (145) placed sixth, to lead Carroll to a 10th-place finish at the Catholic Invitational wrestling tournament in Cleveland on Saturday. Thirty two Ohio Catholic schools participated in the two-day event at Cleveland State University. Cincinnati Moeller won the event with Toledo Central Catholic finishing as runner up.
Young Nominated for GEICO Play of the Year
FAIRBORN — Wright State senior forward Jerran Young’s inbound alley-oop dunk against Eastern Illinois on Dec. 19 is nominated for the GEICO Play of the Year, Intersport announced on Monday.
Each week for eight weeks, four college basketball plays will be nominated as the GEICO Play of the Year. Each week’s winner will be determined by fan voting through the official Facebook page (facebook.com/BestofCollegeBasketball). The eight finalists will compete in a week-long competition to determine the GEICO Play of the Year. The winner will be announced during the GEICO Best of College Basketball special which airs at 2 p.m., March 29 on CBS.

Smith named Horizon League Player of the Week
FAIRBORN — Sophomore Lauren Smith of the Wright State women’s tennis team has been selected as the Horizon League Player of the Week for the week ending Jan. 19, it was announced Monday by the league office.
Smith, of Centerville, picked up three wins as the Raiders split their first two matches of the spring season. Against no. 35 Akron, Saturday at the Five Seasons Dayton club, she defeated Marta Briega in sixth singles 7-5, 6-1.
On Sunday, Wright State picked up a 5-2 victory over Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis at the South Regency Tennis Center in Springboro. In that contest, Smith won 6-3, 6-3 in fifth singles over Julie Brockman and teamed with Tori Turner for a 6-3 decision at second doubles.
Smith leads the Raiders with seven singles wins so far this year and her six doubles wins are tied for first.
Wright State (1-1) hosts Southern Illinois Edwardsville at 3:30 p.m. Jan. 25 at the South Regency Tennis Center in Springboro.
Yellow Jackets sink Alderson Broaddus
CEDARVILLE — Kayla Jenerette led Cedarville University (7-8, 3-2 Great Midwest Athletic Conference) with a game-high 18 points, Deborah Gordon scored 12 points, Kaysie Brittenham added 10 and Kayla Linkous finished with nine in the Yellow Jackets win over Alderson Broaddus, Saturday in the Callan Athletic Center. All 10 Cedarville players listed in the scorebook scored in the contest.
Cedarville men fall
CEDARVILLE — Despite a 13-point performance by Cedarville’s Marcus Reineke and 11-point scoring by Easton Bazzoli and Brian Grant, the Yellow Jackets men’s basketball team was unable to dig itself out of a 34-22 halftime deficit, in Saturday’s loss to Alderson Broaddus. Thylas Perkins scored a game-high 23 points for the Battlers, who remain undefeated in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. Cedarville falls to 4-12, 2-2 G-MAC.
Arnold 5K registration remains open
COLUMBUS — The 14th annual Arnold 5K will be held on Sunday, March 2 in downtown Columbus. The race is part of the Arnold Sports Festival Weekend. All entrants receive an Arnold 5K race T-shirt and a free entry ($15 value) to the 26th annual Arnold Sports Festival after the race, plus the top 500 finishers receive Arnold 5K medals.
