BEAVERCREEK — The Beavercreek High School girls basketball team expects to improve upon last season’s (12-11, 6-4) record, both in their conference and overall. Led by senior Aubrey Zimmerman and young guns Natalie Knight and Kayla Shields, the Beavers are expecting to continually get better as the year goes on. Despite them being a fairly young team, Coach Ed Zink thinks they are a “great group of kids” who he describes as “aggressive and hard workers.”
The outcome of the Beavers season depends on how the young ones start out and how they advance their skills as the season goes on. The girls are expecting to have mostly sophomores and juniors on the squad and are facing tough competition within their division, including Centerville and Fairmont who finished as the top two in the Central division last season with Beavercreek right behind them. Although the Beavers are in one of the toughest divisions in the GWOC, the players along with Coach Zink believe that they have a shot at the postseason.
Coached by Ed Zink, who is the winningest girls basketball coach in Ohio, the Beavers are hoping for a chance at the Division I sectional title and potentially further. Under Zink’s reign, Beavercreek has won the Ohio finals in 1995, 2001, and 2003 and have become a powerhouse within the Greater Western Ohio Conference. – Meaghan Frazier
