We serve an awesome god

Acts Chapter 17 verse 16 says that Paul’s spirit was stirred when he realized people did not have a clear picture of the God that he served. Paul noticed the altar TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Paul speaks about a God that can be known. The Bible has many examples of how God desires to make Himself known to us. That is one of the main reasons that Jesus came to the earth. Of course, his main reason for coming was to pay the price for our sins by dying on the Cross. Paul speaks of some truths about His God.

First, he says that God is powerful. Verse 24 says that God made the world and all that is in it. That is an amazing feat to have on His resume. We have a God that can do anything. No matter our need, God has enough resources to take care of it.

Second, verse 25 says that God is worthy to be praised. He is certainly awesome. It is a good thing for us to give thanks to our God. As the Holiday season approaches, it is an excellent time to count our many blessings.

Third, verse 27 reminds us that God is present. He is not far from us. In fact, the Bible says if we draw close to Him, He will draw close to us. Psalm 46 says He is a very present help in the time of need. He is there all of the time, but especially manifests His presence and power in our times of need. Yes, that is reason to give Him praise.

The song writer got in right when he wrote the song “Our God is an Awesome God.” Another song says he is big enough to rule this mighty universe and yet small enough to live within our heart. Big enough to do anything and yet close enough to allow us to know Him. I believe all us can say to God that He is great and deserves to be praised in a great way.
