No patriotic spirit downtown
Went on a ride this weekend just seeing how the towns in our area are showing their appreciation and respect for those who served and even gave their lives so that we might have the freedom to do what we do. Cedarville, Yellow Springs, Xenia and even little Enon had their downtown areas lined with flags supporting the Memorial Day weekend.
So saving what I thought would be the best for last was Fairborn. Hey I live here, in the paper we talk about the services and respect for the military, and even call our town a military town. Well, don’t go downtown, at least not on Friday, Saturday or Sunday because the only flags we have are the single one in the square, Foy’s and the flag store that show their spirit of support.
Hey don’t even go on the Memorial Monday as there are no flags lining our streets to show support for our fallen. They have a few flags at the end of Kauffman Avenue but that’s far from downtown and unless you’re leaving that part of town you never see the flags.
What is wrong that they can’t put flags on our light posts like other towns and show their patriotic spirit they say they have? We have a flag store now so that should not be a problem to buy a few flags. Don’t say we are working with the base and a military town if you don’t support our troops and America by displaying a few flags, and that’s a fact.
Now we are very supported by the city with all of the tax banners and levy banners lining up all over the entire city, but not the flags for our military patriotic town. Shame on you, you couldn’t budget enough money for a few flags. Our town is an embarrassment that they couldn’t put flags out for a weekend.
