XENIA — Xenia Community Schools’ preschool was awarded $1,000 by the schools foundation.
The “Story Time Literacy and Learning Grant,” funded for the 2014-2015 school year, will be used by Library Assistant Lynn A. Engle to purchase books, CDs, felt boards and stories, large motor materials and puppets.
The use of these materials will facilitate high quality and interactive story time events for 150-200 preschool students housed at Central Middle School. Effectively engaging young children with a variety of media helps the students to develop early literacy, communication and social schools needed to prepare them for kindergarten. The story times are structured around Ohio Department of Education standards of language and development for 3-5 year olds. The district follows the themes of a preschool curriculum which promotes early literacy skills.
The Xenia Community Schools Foundation awards grants to teachers and staff of the Xenia Community Schools. Projects are geared towards enriching student learning. Some applications represent district-wide initiatives. All the grants for Xenia Community School students and teachers are beyond what regular school funding can provide.
